What's new

Good Cologne from........Wal-Mart, Target??

Gentlemen,

We read a lot on here about "good drugstore shaving creams, aftershaves, etc.", but what about colognes? Up until now, I haven't been a cologne-wearer, but have been tempted to order some Speick cologne after smelling how good the AS smells but how fast it's scent disappears! :(

I'd like to try Tabac as well after all the good press it gets.

However, I really can't justify the price, especially with the shipping, of ordering stuff online all the time. Can anyone recommend something (NOT STRONG) that might be available from a "big-box store" locally along the lines of 4711, Speick, Tabac or just something you have found that you like? I like the "fresh, clean" scents.

Thanks.

There's a relatively new fragrance from Old Spice that smells pretty darn good to me. It's got a little of that 1805/Prada freshness to it. It's something like 16 bucks for a bottle. They carry it at Bed, Bath, and Beyond in my area.

Everyone wants "fresh, clean" scents. There are plenty of classics available at Wal-Mart, it just depends on your individual tastes. Use the coupon codes on Basenotes and there are lots of places offering free shipping.
I wouldn't expect to find anything new and earth-shattering at your local discount store. However, once you know what you want, you may as well buy at the cheapest rate.

The Speick EDC is notorious for losing its scent quickly. On me, it lasts no longer than the splash. I know some people get better longevity out of it, but I think most of us who have used it have been slightly disappointed with its lifespan.

I am very fond of Geoffrey Beene Grey Flannel. I think most drug store have it. I got it for $9 the last time I bought it. My wife likes it too.

I picked up one of those monster bottles of Tabac cologne online here not too long ago for 16.99 with free shipping, so you can find awesome deals out there. I'd point you to the spot, but after I posted for others they were down to one by the next day, and the last one went the next day. :w00t:

Oh and the Grey Flannel would be pretty good too. I picked up a bottle at Ross a few weeks ago for 8.99 on clearance, and was the first fragrance my fiancee actually had to ask me what it was since she liked it. So it has a bit of a spot for me if she likes it. But I like it as well so no problem there. Very clean smell.

I remember reading on Mama Bears website the description for her Cabin in the Woods soap under fragrance and that's why I purchased the cologne when I saw it. Sounded like it was something I would like. I can't say it is the same, but I figured if it was even reminiscent of the cologne I'd like it. Here's the description of the soap:

"A wonderful fresh aromatic blend of lavender, spruce & cedar enhanced by a citrus bouquet of lemon lime with a dry down of patchouli, sandalwood and oak moss. .Reminiscent of Geoffrey Beene's Grey Flannel."

I'm going to have to buy the soap sometime here soon! :w00t: Good luck in your search Joe!

Wal Mart has a pretty decent selection for a discount store. 4711, Grey Flannel, Aramis, Polo, etc- you can pretty much find the name brands there in the fragrance counter and of course the old favorites like English Leather, Stetson, etc.

Don't forget, Brut is located in the shaving aisle.

And, I've only ever seen Tabac at one Wal-Mart, so I don't think it's a common thing to be found through them.

check out Marshalls or TJ Max if you have one in your area..... designer Colognes priced between $10 - $30

These kind of places are always good. Also, any kind of special perfume discounters--there are often places in the malls. Outlet stores are another good choice. There are a couple of J&R Cigar stores around me that supply a lot of my AS needs.

I would say that if you want to try Tabac, you should just shop on line and go for it. The bottles--for both AS and Cologne--are enormous and you can probably find them for around 20 bucks. If you order ten ounces of each, the postage isn't going to come to all that much and you can douse yourself with Tabac for years to come. In fact, I just saw a bottle of AS on eBay with free shipping.

You might also want to look around for drugstores/beauty supply places to get yourself some Pinaud products. They're a real value.

I too am looking to purchase some Tabac EDT (10oz. bottle). I don't own any Tabac products but was able to use a buddies Tabac soap at work. I really liked it and will be getting some of that with my EDT order. I have shopped around and found Fragrance X to be the cheapest thus far. They are offering free shipping right now which really saves. Hope this helps you out.

I just ordered the cologne and AS today from them and WAS INDEED CHARGED SHIPPING! Let's get our facts straight men! I emailed customer service about this just in case, but I was, in fact, charged $6.96 shipping. If I hear back from them otherwise, you will be the first to know!

Don't know you are looking, but my local Target, WalMart, Walgreens, etc. have small bottles behind glass cases without testers, and with what I believe are higher prices than what I can find on the internet. My personal modus operandi is to go to department stores to sample, order samples from ther Perfumed Court, Rorschuck or others of what intrigues me, and order from reliable internet sites once I decide on a fragrance. And I do watch Basenotes and other sites for discount "coupons".

Basenotes has an ongoing thread 'Spotted at Marshalls' in the Men's forum which gives an idea of what's in the pipeline. Of course selection varies widely among locations at Marshalls and TJ's.

I picked up a bottle of Dirty English blind at a Marshalls in Boston for $39.95, and love it. I've now seen it at Marshalls in Houston for the same price. It's gotten good reviews here and on Basenotes. Scent is very cedary with a touch of powdery vanilla.
