What's new

Good bye DE

Finished my first straight razor shave last night and actually had a great shave first time with only one nick.

I loved it, and SWMBO thought I looked more manly shaving.:thumbup1:

Looking forward to more good shaves with my Dovo.

It gets better!

Well, actually, it gets worse at first, but then it truly does get better.
Good luck. Don't get discouraged, keep at it.

Congrats...first is always a challenge to get over the hump...now that you have a data point under your belt...keep going!

Well done! I have lent most of my DEs to a friend and I do not miss them. I have not changed the blade in the one I have left since june. I have only recently got the feeling that my shaves are on par with DE, quality wise but the whole ritual of straight razor shaving is so much fun that it really is worth the long wait. Congratulations and happy shaving!

Hi Jonus,

You WILL get better at straight-shaving. Last week, I had a run of terrible shaves. I stropped the living hell out of my razor and now my shaves have improved significantly. Never get lazy with stropping, that's what I've learnt while I've started!

Yeah im still getting used to the stroping. I can see why everyone says dont fall in love with your first strop:glare:. I will keep trying though and practice with the butter knife somemore when im not shaving. Thanks for all the support guys.

Congrats on a good first shave!!

I think you should sell your DE razors, and buy a Schick Injector, or Gem as a backup razor. They provide a superior shave to DE razors! :w00t::tongue_sm

Congratulations, nothing feels better than shaving with a Straight Razor when you have learnt how to do it!

Well second shave down. No nicks but i got some good razor burn. The blade wasnt pulling so im assuming my angle was off. Oh well try again tomorrow.

There will be hurdles along the way...dont let them stop you! Keep it going. I had some wicked razor burn first time out...eventually I learned (and I'm sure my face adjusted somewhat) to the new blade and technique.
