Gold Dollar Hack

I had this idea of moving the pivot pin on a GD 66, making an elongated monkey tail, and putting some fun scales on it. This was my first attempt at scale making, and trying to drill hardened steel. After breaking several bits, I ended up tempering the tang, while the blade was submerged in water. That seemed to do the trick. The scale material was pretty easy to work with and over all I am pretty happy. Go easy on me, this was my first attempt.

Good job. I'm really liking the rounded tail.....been toying with the idea of trying to make one with a rope or twist look.

I like the blade. How's you finish it? I looks like you might have put some kind of patina on it in the pictures.

Pretty sure the only reason the tail is hardened is because its easier to treat the whole thing at once. You can often see the color change on high carbon kitchen knives where the tang is not heat treated but the blade is. Annealing the tail shouldn't hurt anything but straight razors are brand new to me so I regress.

I love the blade, the Disco scales, not so much.

When I showed my wife, she ask if I got into our daughter's bedazzler kit.

Interesting work there. How did you get that dark finish on the blade?

I love the blade alterations. I'm a bit too conservative to go a bundle on the scales, but you made a hell of a statement with the changes you made.
