Gold Adjustable cleaning

Hi,

I have a gold black handle adjustable (P1) and just wondering for cleaning and polishing purposes is it actually gold plate and/or lacquered or is it some other metal?

I read the cleaning wiki and have cleaned with hot water, Simple Green and toothbrush to remove some real stubborn ingrained soap scum. We don't have scrubbing bubbles here. Not sure how much further I can take it without some kind of polish but not sure if I can do that on this one.

Thanks.

It is gold-plated with a lacquer coating to protect the plating. Gold is soft and scratches easily. It is also thinly plated and if the lacquer is removed the plating will wear off quickly and expose the brass base material which will then oxidize. The handle is a resin acrylic coating over a brass base.

Polishing compounds and vigorous buffing will remove some of the protective lacquer. The most I ever do to polish a gold plated razor is to clean it and buff lightly with a cotton rag.

I use Maas to polish my gold razors and have never had any problem.

I would but we don't have that here either. I only have stuff which is likely to be abrasive so might have to look for something.

It looks like tiny scratches on the head but doesn't appear to have worn lacquer sections or any missing unless it's all worn off equally but the gold is intact so it must be ok.

Thats all i've done as well, was just hoping to make it a bit nicer. The handle does appear to have a few tiny corrosion spots through the resin or has been dropped and marked slightly. For $30 not to unhappy.

don't use CLR on a plated gold razor..this is not tiffany 12 mm plating here !! if simple green does not work, try 2 denture tablets in warm water...this fake gold plating is very very cheap, but soap scum can harbor bacteria which may lead to acne...
