Glue spots on new blades

I've noticed that many blades have little spots of "glue" on them to hold the wrapper on. what do yo guys do with the glue? Clean it off? How? or just leave it on? Thus far I've just been leaving it, but wondering if I should be cleaning it off.

I leave it on most of the time, I find it does not affect the shave at all. SO far have not ruined a razor by having the doors glued down. I think the glue comes off pretty easy with rubbing alcohol.

I usually just leave the dots on my 7 O'Clocks. They're not that big and I clean my razors after every blade change anyway.

The Astra SP's that I have, on the other hand, have HUGE spots that extend almost to the blade edge. I scrape those off with the old blade before I discard it.

I don't bother with 'em. I read somewhere that they are actually wax rather than glue, but I can't substantiate that for sure...

My 7 O'Clocks have 4 gluedots pr blade, I just leave them on.

However, I make sure the gluedots points down towards tha handle of the razor, so that they don't worp the blade when the top of the razor bends the blade in an arch. This way, the gluedots don't even touch my razor.

It's my understanding it's a form of wax. They have never affected my blade and they often disappear over time, especially if you rinse your blade with hot water.

I don't know what it is either, but on my blades, the spots where thick enough so that there was a visible gap between blade and the top of the razor. I don't know if that would have affected the shave, but I did not care to find out. Turning the blade around was a quick and easy fix, plus whatever it is, I don't get it on my razor :)

This comes up often...funny how those dang spots bug people so much. For me, I don't sweat it...I just use the blade being replaced to scrape them off of the new one, and the rest takes care of itself. Lately I've been using Swedes, and man, that machine oil is hard to get off...worse than the wax blobs!

When it starts to build up, i drop the head of the razor in 90 alcohol and with an old tooth brush it comes out easily and the razor look clean & shiny
Golden, where do you get your swedes if i might ask? I only have 15 left and they will be gone soon.

I bought 100 from alabamalawyer, and 290 from mjertwe.

I just ignore them (I use astra PTs and Gillette Yellows). Thanks for confirming my suspicion that they were more waxy than gluey.

This seems to be a big YMMV thing...
for me, I scrape them off with the old blade now. I had never had a problem when I leave the glue spots facing up on my gilette slim. However, when using 2 brand new blades with glue side down, I got terrible harsh painful shaves. I managed 1 and a half shaves out of each before tossing the blades. Since then, I leave the glue up and usually scrape it off.

I wipe it off with my fingers. I don't want it gunked up in the razor. If you love a blade, you can learn to live with the wax/glue, not all of them have it.

The four really big glue/wax spots are a trademark of the plant in St. Petersburg, Russia that is 65% owned by P&G/Gillette, the rest by the government. Everything from Astras to Sputniks to Gillettes to Polsilvers to Iridiums.

I have small stashes of 7o'clock yellows and Polsilvers, but won't be buying more. When the spots are so big they encroach on the edge, that's a stopper for me. Besides the extra hassle of trying to remove them, the risk of damaging the edge is too great.

Today I switched from a Gillette "The Spoiler" to a Shark Super Stainless. It's been a while since using a Shark, and I'd forgotten how smooth a Shark is, more so than "The Spoiler," if not quite as sharp.

The Shark has a bit of glue that causes it to stick to the wrapper, but not four big spots that are likely to encroach on the edge.

I didn't mind the spots, but I realise they are sticking gunk on the actual razor head, that's pretty annoying to clean.

I think either clean them before you put it in or just clean your razor from time to time.

I leave them on, but only use a blade twice and then strip clean the razor.
Has anybody had any experience of this glue/wax killing lather ?
