GIT vs. IS

Ok I may sound crazy for even thinking this, but does CREED GIT smell like a more complex Irish Spring?

Could you go with an Irish spring soap and deo and top it off with the GIT from Creed? and be cohesive?

Thoughts?

Despite the aura that surrounds Green Irish Tweed I've never been impressed with it. It smells too sweet, synthetic and much cheaper than it's asking price. Likening it to Irish Spring is not too far off the mark...

I would say that Irish Spring smells more like Original Vetiver than GIT.

...and GIT synthetic?! Them's fightin' words where I come from, pilgrim! :biggrin1:

Hi guys-Not to hijack this post but I am really trying to find a cologne that is a close approximation to the scent of Musgo Real soap, which reminds me of Irish Spring (but far superior). I have never tried Creed Original Vetiver, does the scent remind you of the Musgo Real soap?

I think some posters honestly assess GIT by the fake 4oz bottle they bought on ebay. It's the only logical explanation. Those bootleg 4oz bottles have no clear glazing on the Creed crest, and are likely filled with the same synthetic fragrance oils in the knockoff cool waters.

i encourage everyone to go to their local Nieman marcus, or order samples from a reputable online source prior to rating such scents as: GIT, MI, SMW, OS, OV, and Himalaya have all been bootlegged and ebay is saturated with these.

Puig's Vetiver, Zara Vetiver, and especially Adolfo Domingeuz' Vetiver

Thanks! I will have to give those vetivers a try-

I think that Irisch Moos shaving soap smells a bit like Irish Spring. What about the Moos AS?

I will definitely need to try that-When I think of all the time I spent in Germany for work before my wetshaving habit, and I had no idea about all the great stuff there!:frown:

My opinion of GIT is based on a sample from Nieman Marcus where I tried out a number of Creed's fragrances... to me, many of Creed's offerings smell synthetic and I think they are ridiculously overpriced for what they are. The ones I did like were the older 1948 version Vetiver (NOT the Original Vetiver, which I did not like), and the older version of the Tabarome. I actually wound up getting the Vetiver at almost half off, which at that price was worth it!

Mama Bear makes a very reasonably priced "Dublin Irish Tweed" bath soap and shaving soap that are a great match for GIT.

If you like and use GIT, you'd be crazy not to try it.

Ok then. I aim that statement at other posters on B&B and other boards who have given poor reviews only to then apologize after learning they reviewed the fake version. If you tried the small sample, perhaps try them both (Cool Water and GIT) simultaneouly and with a heavy hand. They will smell very similar for the first 45minutes and then take very divergent courses after that. A heavy application of GIT, especially on clothing, reveals the true masterpiece that GIT is, over it's several day development (Clothing holds scent much better than skin does. Might I suggest the cuffs of a jacket to do this test.

I too like vintage Tabarome and the 1948 vetiver, especially the final drydown of a heavy application of vintage tabarome, where all that is left is the tobacco and cinnamon.

Right on! This is also my favorite Creed! I did not care for the Original Vetiver either. The 1948 Vetiver is not an easy find, but I also got a bottle for a decent price.
