Gin

Also the Beefeater makes a great martini. Tanqueray No. 10 makes a good gin and tonic but I don't like it as well in a martini.

Bombay Sapphire #1, Beefeater #2 for making martinis, neat, or on the rocks. For gin and tonic or any "highball" it matters not, IMO.

I was wondering if there were any gin drinkers around and what gins they would suggest I try.

I like Tanqueray 10, and Bombay Sapphire is nice, too. But after the 3rd or 4th martini, rotgut bottom shelf stuff tastes about the same as top shelf, to me.

Here is a trick to making a martini with BS gin. Put the gin in the freezer. Keep your glasses and shaker there, too. Vermouth in the fridge... it could freeze in the freezer. Olives in the fridge. Set up your olive and toothpic or whatever. Move quickly! Combine ice, vermouth, and gin in your shaker and shake VIGOROUSLY until the shaker frosts, about 30 seconds. Strain, pour, and serve quickly and immediately. It should be tasted right away. The gin will be cloudy and slightly effervescent from nearly microscopic air bubbles and will greatly enhance the flavor. Don't waste your good gin making it this way... but if you have the $6.99 special stuff, go for it.

A decent, cost-effective gin is New Amsterdam. I really like it in a gin buck- works very well with the ginger ale/beer.

Bombay Sapphire would be my choice for G&Ts. A week or so ago I picked up a bottle of Hendricks but haven't had the chance to give it a go.

Ill have to try a Gin/Ginger ale. Never thought of that one. I just bought New Amsterdam a few days ago. Good gin for the price.

The Gin Buck was popular back in the day. I believe the Moscow Mule was a variation off the Gin Buck. Gin, ginger beer/ale and a wedge of lemon is a great thirst quencher.
