Gillette Tech

My aluminium handled Tech arrived today I've just finished cleaning it up and no date code! It seems to be a bit of a running theme with me and vintage Gillettes. I've read elsewhere that this could mean it's pre-1950 but I'm not so sure can anybody shed any light on this? All it says underneath is Gillette on the left and made in england on the right. Any help would be great.

I'm no Tech expert, but I'm not sure that any of the British Techs had date codes. ??

Maybe somebody who knows more that I do will chime in soon?

It's most likely from the 60's and based on the logo it may have been a part of a larger grooming kit. I had a Tech like that had the similar logo with no date code and it came from a grooming kit with blades that were from the 60's. Here's some pics from when I put it on BST.

Seems the most likely explanation, although I found a thread from another forum where a guy swears that the logo on the head was pre-1960's and that the razor was actually a combination of a 1960's handle and a pre-60's head. I love the idea of the head being as old as 40's/50's but seeing as there is so many of these around it seems unlikely that this really is 2 different razors. It's a shame the English made Techs had no date code.

I have one just like it, but there is NO logo on the head whatsoever. I've always wondered what the story is with this razor.

I don´t know if this will be of any help but I have one, exactly like yours and I´ve been trying to find a production date with no sucess. When I bought the razor it was delivered in a blue case exactly like this one :

I´m not sure if it is the original case though. I believe too the head logo suggest the 50´s. The handle can be seen on many of the techs from the 60´s, but they are usually aluminum handles. The one I have weighs 62 g so I guess it´s to heavy for aluminium.

Anyhow, it´s a great looking razor!

It's an enigma! You're right they are cool so I'm happy to have it and after a little polishing it's come up really nice. It definitely seems to look like it's two different razors.

I have one like that but the logo on the head is just the word "Gillette". It belonged to my wife's granddad and shaves very nicely.

It was in the post box when I arrived home from work yesterday and luckily for me SWMBO was at a work function until the early hours! So I spent a couple of hours cleaning and polishing it, despite having shaved in the morning I couldn't resist and by 9PM I was lathering up again. I am impressed, it is such a simple design but it really performs well and it's very nice looking to boot. I am seriously bitten now and it's making me a little nervous I want more! The best part it cost less than the price of a Macdonalds, it's complete madness.

The other techs from that period have a different logo on the head. It's the pressed Gillette logo not the embossed arrow head one that is on my razor.

I was also wondering if it could be a sportsman but the picture in the link above is the only one I´ve seen and as you said, it doesn´t show the logo on the head.
What´s the weight of yours ? If you´re certain it is an aluminium handle it would make two models, one with an alu handle and one heavier type. Here´s some pictures of my razor.

Hi, can anyone help me with these two Techs ?
Both exactly same size, but ...
The left one looks like the handle and the bottom of the head is made of aluminium and weights 27g (9oz.)
The right one is a massive (looks like all made of same material like the top of the head - whatever it is) and weights 59g (20oz.)

I think that ball end Techs are very beautiful, but the very common 'light' versions weight is much too slight and now, after I've got the heavy one, it is one of my favorites.

So ... I'd like to know some more about the heavy ball ended Gillette Tech.

That's exactly my razor, I will weigh my one and see but it's extremely light.
