I picked this up the other week, and need some help ID'ing it. The razor in the back of the second photo is a new that I could put in the make the set a little better, because the one in the set currently is really rough. The handle is double cracked, and completely separated from the razor. Sorry for the bad pictures, I am feeling a bit lazy today and didn't want to break out the good camera. Oh, and what is something like this worth?

Looks like an old type combination set, but I think it should have a single ring in there instead of a ball end. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
I believe I agree with your diagnosis doctor.
With the caveat that Gillette was wont to do some weird things when they had a mismatched number of a certain type of razor and a certain type of case.
