Gillette OLD type & clones?

I have three British-made clones of the Gillette OLD type and I have noticed that when I put a blade in and tighten the head, the blades are sometimes curled up a little bit at the far edges. It doesn't affect two of the razors enough that it causes any problem when shaving but one is uneven along one side of the blade such that it is not safe to shave with.

Anyway, I am wondering whether it is due to the fact that these razors were designed to work with the older, thicker blades? When Gillette started selling thinner blades, they specified that they were for use in the NEW type and recommended the older, thicker blades for both types.

All three clones are made by different companies. I don't have a Gillette OLD type to compare them with (yet) so I am also wondering whether this is something that can be seen with the Gillette OLD type as well?

That's funny I'm reading "King Gillette the man and his wonderful device" by Russell Adams.

Yesterday I read an episode in which the author describes this, as a desing problem, and also the cracked handles. Aparently it took Gillette company a while to come up with a solution to this problems.
