Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Stainless (Green) vs. Gillette Silver Blue - Discuss

I'm on my second five-pack of Super Stainless and torn between getting a larger quantity of these vs. Silver Blue, which I've never tried.

Has anyone compared these two, and if so, what has been your experience? I've read reviews on each separately in the forum so that's covered. Now, what about a head-to-head?

I have some Gillette greens and used two packs so far with excellent results. I find the blade moderately sharp but very smooth and keeping its edge for long. Very good value if you shop smart.

I would buy more but not sure if they are coated or not and could not find any info.

Does anyone know if Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Stainless (Green) blades are coated and, if yes, what kind of coating?

The Russian made greens are nice but the India made green permasharps are off the chart.

You can pick up 100 on eBay now for almost nothing including shipping

The 7 O'Clocks (except for the blue/black) have different personalities. Of course this is very YMMV, but my experience is the Silver Blues are better than most of the 7 O'Clock series, but the 7 O'Clock Blues & Blacks are their equal. Certainly differences may be detectable, but they are unlikely to be extreme differences between those three.

The greens did not agree with my face, silver blues are better imo but not the grail. Gillette platinum's (white box) are the best out of all the Gillette blades for me.

In my opinion you should try them first. My experience with 1 single gillette silver blue that I tested so far was that it cannot keep its edge for 1 shave, while I had a much better shave with gillette green russian version. I was quite impressed how smooth it feels. I am not sure about Gillette Silver Blue, if mine was a bad one or not, but will soon test the second one, to find out. I would never risk a big buy unless I can't find it anywhere else in smaller quantities or is simply cheaper to get from that store where you order other stuff instead of paying the full shipment from another store.

And one other thing is that they feel fairly different. Gillette Greens Super Stainless (russian) are similar to other types of stainless blades, while permasharps and gillette silver blue feel a bit different, though I can't say that they don't have something from the stainless feeling.

I like all gillette blades, I don't think you can make a bad choice with any of them.

Having tried the Silver Blues, Russian Greens and Yellows, I have found all 3 to be great blades. The greens are less sharp though as compared to the Silver Blues and Yellows. Much better than Derbys if that helps.

Gillette blades are not only sharp but also SMOOTH, and that makes me enjoy my shave with them. Another thing I enjoy about them is that they provide feedback - you can hear and feel the blade cutting the hairs, which adds to the shaving experience.

I've tried the Super Stainless Greens (they were the best for me when I started), Yellows, and Silver Blues.
I've settled on the Silver Blues being the best for me. They give me a BBS shave EVERY time.

Good blade, but it's always up to you and what you like.

I am new to DE shaving and have been trying a number of blades and have been impressed with the Gillette's but have to admit that the GSB have been really good for me. Four really good shaves so far with a single blade. I have also tried and really liked the Platinums that TAOS sells in the store but they are way too expensive to buy in bulk. A single box of five was $6. I think that would probably be a blade that I would use regularly if I could have easily find them online from a reputable dealer. The one dealer that had them listed but was out of stock directed me to the GSB's.

You have to try the GSB for yourself before deciding. I have them both but am undecided as to which I like better. if you PM me your name and address I'll PIF you a pack of GSB's.
