Gift for wife for our first home?

I need some ideas for buying my wife something special. We just bought our first home and will be moving in two weeks. She is 25 and a first year law student. There is a third bedroom that we will be using as an office. My first thought was to restore an old desk for her to use in the office. But I will have to wait until I have the garage to work in. I wanted to have something nice for her for the first time we turn the key and step into our new house. I have $300 set aside for a desk project, I am looking to spent around $150 or under for a gift I can give her right away. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

thanks
Rob

Needs milk and a bidet!
Congratulations on your first home purchase!

First year law student....new office..... hmmmmm

nice fountain pen (or any pen) and notebook case
maybe a comfy office chair
briefcase
some artwork for the office

When my wife and I bought our house I had a chilled bottle of her favorite champagne on hand for that first night. You can't go wrong.

As for your desk restoration idea, I'm 100% behind you and think it thoughtful on your part, but don't burn yourself out; there will be plenty of sweat equity in the future. Enjoy, and congratulations on such a big step!

I got moves like Jagger
When we moved into our previous house, I got my wife two brooms for Christmas: a straw one and a big old push broom.
The lady at Home Depot wasn't amused when I said what they were for, but SMWBO liked them. ....... but only because we needed brooms :tongue_sm

Thanks for the ideas. After some thinking, I'm going to buy her a Japanese Maple tree. There is some landscaping that needs to be done near the front entry way. I have always wanted to buy a tree for our first home but the one we bought has two mature oaks in the front yard, no reason for another large tree. A Japanese Maple will go great near the front entry way and fits my original idea of planting a tree.

She doesn't like champagne, but putting her favorite bottle of wine on the counter is a great idea!

Go to personalizationmall.com and create something like a frame, ornament, trinket box, etc symbolizing your new home together. I get my gal an ornament every year for Christmas symbolizing something significant from the year. Last year was our first house, this year - not sure yet haha.

I was going to recommend something like a paintbrush, lawnmower, Lowes/HD gift card, new lighting fixture, charcoal grill, mop, ....

Your idea of a Japanese Maple or something that you can watch grow with your marriage/life is a much better idea. Also taking a family photo there at the same spot every year, having it as a backdrop will be a nice too look back on in the years ahead.

Your idea of a tree is pretty good, and I would go with that, but you could buy her an iron as a joke (if she has a sense of humour!)

Now half as wise

I would be careful not to get her something that will do damage when it gets thrown back at you!

What about a nice shaving brush, some decent soap and a beautiful razor and blades? Don't forget the aftershave! You'll be so nice and smooth and fresh and lovely smelling that that will be the best gift for her :a2:.

Bahaha.... I worked on a rescue truck in metro Detroit, was called by PD to an injury from a domestic violence. When we arrived a man was profusely bleeding from the back of his head. Asked what happened and he said he bought his girl a smoothy for their anniversary, she got mad and threw it at me. We stood there puzzled, I asked how did a smoothy bust open your head, he said she threw it hard! A smoothy? Yeah, you know the thing that smooths out your shirts! Ohh an Iron!

Too bad it's been almost a month since your original post...I could have saved you a ton of time and money over the "long haul" of marriage.

Vacuum cleaner.

Thank me later.

Why not buy her a house?

... seriously, though, the maple tree sounds nice.

When I bought my first condo, I was single and on the verge of getting married a few months later. The Mrs. moved in and I gave her the most useful gift. In fact she uses it everyday.
... a key to the front door. :001_smile
