Georgetown G20 & Dirty Bird 1.5

I am trying to decide between DB 1.5 and GT G20 scuttles.

In the past I had a DB original wich I found perfect size-vise but lather kept creeping out of it. I also had Backer 001 which was great except the lip on the top ridge was too big thus reducing the overall bawl radius and causing the brush to bang on it.

I am partial to G20 because it is less bulky than DB. Any thought or opinions would help.

I have only the DB original (which I like a lot), but know what you mean about lather creep. As I've never tried a G20, I've no frame of reference for whether that one's better or not. The DB original seems to have a fairly large footprint, though, so I'd be reluctant to get a larger scuttle. Anyway, since you've already had a DB, maybe try a G20? In any case, good luck!

I dunno, the stopper on the GP scuttles seems like a feature that others lack. But I'm not sure how necessary that is.

I thought the same thing, The stopper does help like the lid of a thermos, its stops the heat from escaping as fast. I can say I love my G20 but can't compare it to a DB.

When i had my Dirty Bird 1.5 it was an amazing scuttle. Julie makes some great items. i have also heard that her scuttles retain heat better than most. Good luck.

I like my G20. It holds a lot of water without being too bulky, and the fit and finish are nice. I read they are molded, vs hand thrown. That means they are all shaped identical, though the glaze is hand done. I didn't like the potter wheel looking ones as much. To each his own...

I have the DB 1.5 and love it. I'm sure if I had purchased the G20 I would love it. I don't think you can go wrong.

The rubber stop isn't necessary in my opinion. There were benchmarks proving this on the forums.

I stopped using a stopper in all of my scuttles a while ago. One less thing to fiddle with.

I put the scuttle in the sink when filling the sink with hot water to warm the pottery. Drain the water out of the scuttle reservoir, then re-fill the reservoir with hot water, hold my thumb over the hole and turn it upside down to empty the water out of the lather area then put the scuttle on a towel on the counter where I make the lather.

I've got to get into the studio and make myself a scuttle... Anyone have better luck with earthenware/stoneware or porcelain? Earthenware/Stoneware can be anywhere from red to brown and speckled, porcelain is white to gray.

I have a G5 with the stopper. The thin lip of the DB spout would stop me from ordering it. I do like the DB brush scuttle, and I think I would prefer it to my G5.

The original DB held heat nicely without the stopper. It is not an issue for me. The size and weight is. I guess I will go with G20 just becuase it is less bulky.
