Gentlemen's Best Signature Series

Gents, this soap is sold by member Ray (Thirdeye) @ his business of the same name. I ordered a tub of it in the wooden bowl. Used it this morning and holy CRAP ... what great soap! The lather was stupid easy to make, it was plentiful, rich, smooth, protective, and oh yeah ... it smelled great! If you haven't tried it I strongly urge you to do so.

Now the AS splash is singing my name ...

Props to Ray. Great stuff!

No, I don't think so (Ray, please correct me if I'm wrong). If I had to guess I'd say it was a cold-process soap but really, that's only a guess.

While it's certainly no substitute for old-formula Pen's, it's a highly respectable product in its own right, tallow or no.

I'd love to hear more about this soap.

Are the Gentleman's Best products coming from the SCS factory?

how do they compare to Sue's soaps?

That's what I thought too...I saw those boxes and figured they were SCS formulation. Of course, the big tip-off was the actual SCS soaps on offer further down the page, lol...

FWIW, the SCS soaps are some of my faves, even without tallow. Sue's products are top notch.

I think so. However, I really don't have any of Sue's other soaps to compare it with.

Actually, that's not entirely true. I have a puck of her Rosa Damascena soap. But I think that one is made differently from the rest of her line. And anyway, I haven't used it yet. :blushing:

The Gentlemen’s Best line is a recipe formulated exclusively for Gentlemen’s Best. It is not an SCS formula.
SCS is the perfume house that has been employed to produce the GB line. As a start up brand and a cost effective measure the decision was made to use the packaging that is currently in use for the SCS brand. With the addition of the laser engraving. The packaging will be changing as the product line goes.
This is a very common practice of all the top brands we all know and love. You would be as surprised as I was to find out just how many brands are made in the some house. Each has their own closely guarded recipes and packaging but made in the same place.
So to answer your question, it is not an SCS brand however it is made with the same loving care the that Sue puts into every one of the their lines.

And while I am at it I’d like to publically thank Sue for all her efforts in helping me develop the Gentlemen’s Best line both current and upcoming.

Thanks Ray...excellent choice. I just might have to save up a few pennies for another soap purchase.

I couldn't decide which forum to post this in, but since it involves the soap, AS, and EdT; I chose the general shaving discussion.

I'd like to know what you guys think of it. I'm going to do a full review after a couple of weeks solid use, but my first impression is quite favorable.

The scent: It's great! It is very reminiscent of Arlington, but it's not a knock off by any stretch. There is a great orange, citrus note on an oak moss base note and I'm getting some bergamot in there as well. It's great. In fact, I've not worn anything else over the weekend since picking it up.

Performance: My first impressions of the soap are very favorable, but I'm not going to go into too much detail here (waiting for more experience with it and will do a full review) other than to say my shave was incredibly smooth, my face felt great afterwards, and I was quite pleased with it. The AS doesn't need any wait, IMO. It was awesome. The scent is great, but the performance was phenomenal. I was stunned at how great it felt with virtually no sting (actually, I can't recall any sting), and made my face feel exceptionally well moisturized, healed. The best part was that it wasn't sticky.

The EdT is nice because of the scent, but it doesn't over power the room. It's a "close" scent, and it's a great value at $27.

So, there are my first impressions, and yes I consider Ray to be a friend. However, I wouldn't post anything about it if I didn't think it was great stuff. What are your experiences with it?

:001_rolle

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm planning on picking up a puck tomorrow because I'll be taking advantage of Ray's awesome engraved wooden soap bowl offer for $18. $5 of which goes towards B&B... which, again, is awesome. :)

Indeed. Awesome. And the bowl looks great! :thumbup1:

At this point I have about 5 soaps I haven't even touched yet... sigh!

Only 5?? :001_huh: I must have at least double that ...
