What's new

FYI Alum blocks are flimsy

I have just finished shaving.

Then I packing all of my shaving stuff away.

Then the alum block slipped out of my hand and shattered on the tiles....... Into lots of pieces.

I just wanted to share this.

Good night.

I have tried Shavex, Osma, and Crystal body deodorant. The Crystal was available at my grocery store, the cheapest, but provides a slightly more intense sting. The Shavex was pretty fragile and did not last as long as I would have liked it to. I just picked up the Osma at Pasteur's and it seems really well made and is quite mild. Easily the best of the three but also the most expensive. I don't think they're all the same but they're pretty close.

what do you guys think about razorock alum stick? for 6 bucks not a bad deal looks like it would help the slipping we have all encountered

I enjoy the razor rock one, pretty mild sting. I personally haven't had any problems with it falling out of the holder but I've heard quite a few others have.

Yup.
I now get huge 110g blocks at the Indian supermarket for $2!

me too. :) Except they're only $1. :) I have one that I have had for three years and through two moves and it hasn't broken.

I also have a "stick" of Crystal Deodorant that I carried in my kit when I was flying all over for my last job - basically just for the "case" that it comes in - although it also dissolves and doesn't stay in the case after a while as well.

Save the bigger pieces, wrap them up in any kind of cloth and tie it shut. Just wet the whole thing and put it into your shoes, it'll dry the shoe out, and keep any odor away. Lots of uses for the shattered pieces so don't throw them away.

there's a thread on here somewhere from a member who ground up his shattered alum block, mixed it with some water then froze it. like sliding a big alum ice cube over your face.

I love mine. You can get more alum for less money, but the holder is ideal for me. I have yet to experience the issue of dissolving and coming out of the handle--still seems pretty solid in the handle.

it's good for a little while. Then it won't stay in the holder after it dissolves a bit

Interesting. I'm on my third Razorock stick and have not had this happen. While the blocks certainly last longer, I really like the convenience of the Razorock sticks.
