I dont know if there are many canadian's here or not. Let alone from newfoundland. Im from a town called Paradise, just outside the main city.

Anyways, municipal elections were just held in the town and a 19 y/o won the election by 3 votes. The only mayor who lost called for a recount the following day and it ended up being a tie.

To pick the winner they basicaly drew names out of a hat. The 19 y/o ended up losing but it asking for a 2nd recount.

How cool would it be, to be a 19y/o and win an election of a town with a population of 15,000.

I recall the little town of Hillsdale, MI had an 18 year old man...er..man? I guess so... technically... anyway...

That was probably about two years ago. I don't know his term length but I DO remember reading a story about 4-5 months after his election where he was asked to publically apologize to his high school buddies for playing some sort of prank on them using his powers of authority to his advantage. It was pretty ridiculous at the time, although I think he ended up doing alright in his position overall. Not sure, wasn't really all that important to me.

I sometimes think most places would do well with your average 9 year old in charge. As a third generation educator I have some experience in this, and I suggest that anyone ask a child some of the basic questions we confront as a society. Do you think that people who hurt or take from others should go to jail? Do you think people who are hurt or sick should be able to see a doctor? Do you think that people who cheat should loose what they cheated for? Should we help people that need it even if they can't pay us for it?

My wife is a Town Administrator... when I shown her this post she just shook her head and said she was glad she never had to deal with that!

Mr Curtis Coombs lost the recount battle.. they did recount and it was still a tie so the hat draw stood place.. However Mr Coombs is now fighting for another Hat Draw.. Time for the kid to give it up. Sucks losing but at this time you have to throw in the towel or you risk looking immature to the point the next election it may harm his votes if he runs (bet he will)
