Alright so I have been on the French press train for a while now...been using it almost exclusively for a year or two now and like many others here I love it. Using a drip pot nowadays just seems wrong..anyway I've had good experiences with the cheaper Bodum Brazil press I bought originally but recently I've had some problems. If you aren't sure which model I am talking about you can see it over over here. http://bit.ly/9ZzQ4p
The lil plastic knob that threads on the bottom of the mesh filter is losing the threading..so when I plunge the pot it will totally fall off and then won't press my coffee down. So far I've been able to work around it by swirling around teh coffee a bit so theres less resistance to pressing, but I can't help but think that lil plastic thing will fail me once again.
So my question is what brand of french press do you folks use? Specifically, is that little knob I am talking about made of plastic of steel? I don't see any reason it shouldn't be made or some sort of metal for durability purposes.
Here is a link to a picture of the piece I am talking about. http://bit.ly/9cbkpZ
I wouldn't mind spending a bit extra money on a nicer one considering this one seems to be succumbing to not even that much wear and tear. Any recommendations are much appreciated.
