Free Samples From Diptyque!

A few weeks ago, I shot Diptyque an e-mail requesting samples of their Tam Dao bodywash and lotion and also requested to try a couple other fragrances I was interested in. It was only after I browsed the site a little more that I saw you had to pay for the samples. Doh!

Never heard back from them, not even so-much as a, "Hey guy, this **** ain't free" reply e-mail. I just kinda forgot about it.

Today, I get home and there's a big UPS box sitting on my front porch. I didn't order anything , but figured it might be a b-day present from a relative since my b-day is Sunday. I read the return address and it's from Diptyque :001_huh:

Kinda confused, I open the box. To my surprise, there are samples of four fragrances in 2ml vials WITH atomizers :w00t:. Also included was a sample of both their Tam Dao bodywash and Tam Dao body lotion. A nice gesture and totally unexpected!

 Two thumbs-up for Diptyque's generosity

Holy crap. That's awesome. I might look into some samples, since there's a few of their scents I'm interested in. Namely, Eau Lente and a few others.

Where did you find anything about samples? Their website is only bare-bones at the moment, advertising holiday candles with a fewho-hum links.

Eau Lente was the first one I tried. It's uhm...interesting to say the least! I don't mean that in a bad way, but I think it'll take some getting used to. It goes on very strong and is very spicy and incensey. After it's dried down a bit, I find it pretty intriguing and, in a way, pretty pleasant. My girlfriend HATES it, though :001_rolle

Can you imagine a fragrance kiosk in the Middle-East with all sorts of incense burning? Yea, that's basically what I find in it. You'd have to be pretty confident to pull this stuff off. Very warm, very spicy, incensey and "cozy", if that's any sort of a descriptive term for a scent.

L'eau gets a thumbs down from me:thumbdown

Philosykos is very unique and, in my opinion, pretty damned good. I've sampled it before and I've come to the conclusion that I like it a lot :thumbup1: Fig and cedar; very nice.

Happy Birthday....mine is Sunday too :)

I would call and thank them.

(subconsciously knowing that this could lead to even more free samples):001_cool:

Already done :thumbup1:

A gesture like that deserves some recognition. I think I may end up buying the Philosykos. I already have the Tam Dao, but I've smelled nothing like the fig and cedar that Philo offers. Very distinctive and high quality despite being a little linear.

That's exactly how I imagined Eau Lente, though I must admit that what hooked me was the description that it's based on an ancient recipe from the 3rd century BCE. Oh, and I agree that Philosykos is pretty good. I got a sample from Perfumed Court awhile ago.

OMG - THANK YOU for agreeing with me that Eau Lente is NASTY! Now I think I understand why "Obsessed" might have started the "nauseating fragrances" thread!

Eau Lente is among a small group of fragrances that are alike in that I simply cannot imagine how the perfumers could justify putting that much spice in. Michael Storer's Winter Star, and even more notably, something from the B&B decant club called QED Man 101 also fit into this category. It makes me want to ask the perfumer, "Did you really think you were going to get away with this?!" That QED Man 101 stuff was simply vile.

Back to Diptyque, though -

I am slowly getting to know the line. I like what I've smelled so far, even if they are scents I wouldn't wear.
