Frank Shaving similar to Edwin Jagger?

Hi, i'm fairly new to DE shaving, and when i first started, i purchased a flying eagle, which seemed to be a poor man's gillette tech. it works great and i really like it, but i wanted to try some more stuff as well. so i purchased a frank shaving razor. it looked very similar to a EJ and figured i would give it a try. it feels really aggressive and has quite a wide opening. is it pretty similar to an EJ? i really would like to get one of them, but if its going to perform similar i might skip and try something more like a vintage gillette tech for now. Thanks in advance for any help.

I got that razor also- it is really a piece of crap. I did like the handle though, and use it with my Lord L6 razor head instead of the flimsy aluminum one it came with- and this made it a fine razor! The head on the Frank is much too tight and does not let the blade sit properly making it overly agressive to the point of dangerous.

In my experience with one of their brushes and from reading various posts here, Frank Shaving is not synonymous with high quality.
Their strong suit is price.

EJ, on the other hand, is known for top quality. Their razor heads are generally described as very similar to, but slightly milder than, the Merkur heads.

The EJ DE8X line of razors are affordable and have a finish quality that is rivaled by few others.

While I don't think that Frank Shaving brushes are "horrible" I wouldn't say high quality either, and I would be more worried about a cheap razor than a cheap brush.

I have some FS brushes which I think are great...I do just fine with cheapo brushes. Can't speak to their razor line up, but that is one mighty wide blade gap in my opinion...mighty aggressive. An EJ de89 is much less aggressive and gives a great shave.

The problem with most very inexpensive DE razors is the head... the head designs aren't very good, nor is the quality control. I've tried a lot of the Chinese, Indian and Pakistani heads and I've yet to find one I'd shave twice with.

i would have agreed with you except my flying eagle. that thing is Smooth with a capital S. no, it doesn't look pretty, but works quite well. never tried any others.

The GOOD brand name razors are too cheap to buy a *** brand ( and quality) After all...one is getting a piece of equipment that will last 20 years or more

I'm amazed at how quickly public opinion has turned on FS in regards to their brushes.

I have one of their brushes, and love it. While it's certainly not the best in the world, it does a fine job, and doesn't have any issues. I certainly like it a lot better than the EJ travel brush I had.

As for the razor, yeah, I'm not sure I'd trust one either. Then again, I wouldn't buy a Timor or any of those other things either.

I like my FS travel brush in finest two-band. I can't seem to find any affordable two-band brushes from the major brands, so I will probably buy another sooner or later. I just love having all that stiffness and softness at the same time.
