Flu shot

Every year I get one. Many years ago I was in Chicago on business and woke up one morning in my hotel room with a very high fever, nausea, and dizziness. I was sick for three days. I vowed to get a flu shot the next year and have done it since. Never had the flu again.

Absolutely, yes. I have gotten one every year since at least 1998 and have never had the flu or any side effects that I remember. For years my employer paid for them; now I pay for it out of pocket but get it just the same.

Got a swine flu shot in 1976 and didn't get another flu shot until 2011. I'm now old enough to get them free at CVS, but I opt for the regular, not the high dose one.

Nope, I may get it once in awhile but I'll take that risk while letting my immune system do its thing.

+ 1 on this. I understand why the flu shot is issued. I think my body should be more dependent on it's own virus fighting antibodies. Just my preference. The last flu shot I received was in 1999, and I woke up feeling crumby. I haven't taken it since, and have been just fine. (knock on wood.)

Absolutely....the more people that do get it, the less it spreads and affects people that don't

Yup. I know that influenza is a moving target and evolves each year, but in the aftermath of the whole autism/children's vaccine fiasco, measles returned to areas of the world that hadn't had cases in decades and killed over 160,000 people in 2009 alone.

I may not get the flu this year with or without a vaccine (I did get one this past Saturday), but especially since I have two young children, if I don't I put them at higher risk, even if they get one (which they did as well).

I get one each year only because if I don't I will almost certainty come down with the flu. I've had the flu three or four times and been deathly ill with it each time. I figure that even if the flu shot isn't the right strain, etc. it will rev my immune system up and get it ready for the off chance I come in contact with the bug.

They were mandatory in the service and we were quite young back then. I have read that children and the elderly are the most vulnerable.

That's what I hear as well. I'm not saying I am immune I just don't think it is necessary for me right now. I've actually thought long and hard about this in the past and I know I have never been really sick, with a fever or any flu symptoms. And I've had about 2-3 minor colds that I can remember, which was basically just a stuffy nose/runny nose. I just don't get sick.

I just know that one day it's all going to catch up with me :scared::18:

I am not recommending it one way or the other.

I believe you are a bit mistaken here. The flu shot purpose is for your immune system to get 'up to speed' on fighting it. You're being exposed to a non-lethal case of it so your own immune system is better equipped to handle it when/if you get hit with the real thing.

I'm not sure they are more vulnerable to getting the flu, but there are definite greater 'at risk' groups that if contracted, the flu will have a much more harsh effects on them than just feeling icky. The best way to protect everyone, and in particular the more at-risk groups, is to prevent the flu from being spread to them. Part of that includes the flu shot.

My employer gives them free and by getting one we get points for a wellness program. Enough points on the wellness program and we get reduced premiums and deductible.

I got my first flu shot last year, not really for myself, but to prevent passing the flu to my elderly parents. I'll be getting another shot this year.

The only time I have gotten the full blown flu is when I got the flu shot, I thought I was gonna die, never again.

I use liposomal vitamin C with great success as it is the ultimate virus killer and doesn't care which strain is popular, it kills them all.
