Thought I would post my latest fishing gear haul. Meijer has a lot of fishing tackle on clearance so I stocked up on some good deals. Can't go wrong for 90% off!. and fishing line for $3 and $1.72!

All this was less than $20

I fish both. There is a river (the Fox river) less than half a mile from my house that I've fished loads of times. There is also several ponds in the area 5-20min drive depending on which one I go to. I don't have a boat so I fish from the bank.

Haven't been fishing in 2 seasons so this year I'm really looking forward to it. Some new tackle and a couple poles

have you had any luck with those Havoc and Gary Yamamoto worms? There is some on clearance still and i'm thinking of getting them but never used them before.

also never heard of the Tackle Warehouse, so thanks for that!

I've actually never caught a bass on a Yamamoto Senko, normally i use Yum Dingers but they were out of the color i like so i went with the power team lures sick stick. I have caught bass on other Yamamoto baits. As for Havoc those are swim baits that I haven't tried yet, i used one of their flipping baits which worked great, definitely get Havoc they cost under $3 so if you see them on sale stock up.

Tackle Warehouse is like the West Coast Shaving of fishing gear, great service.

Well they were still a little pricey, i know they will be marked down further so i'm keeping my eye on them. I picked up some more line, it's just too good to pass up.

Next I need a rod and reel. I like the bait casting reels and would like to keep the price below $75 for both. any suggestions on brands?

Some brands to check out would be Lew's or Shimano, especially the Shimano Caenan it's $89 but it's well worth it. Whatever reel you go with make sure you read lots of reviews first. I'd also recommend you stay away from Quantum's value series. I bought two reels from them for under $40 which broke very easily. Choosing a rod may be a bit trickier depending on what your fishing for and where, but i've found a 7 foot medium heavy rod is very versatile. If you have a Dick;s near you see if they have the Daiwa Strikeforce series of rods they run about $20. Or you could just buy a rod and reel combo, but remember read reviews first and if you've never used a casting reel make sure you read all about how to use them.

I mostly do ponds, the rivers around where I live don't have too many offerings. Yamasenkos and Rapala #11s are among my favorite baits, I've landed some good ones on them.

I was actually looking at some Quantum's. I think i'll keep looking now. I've never looked at felt or played with a Lews or Shimano, but i will now. My last reel was a Spidercast baitcaster and i can't remember the rod but it had titanium in the name. The spidercast was decent, around $80 at the time, lasted me 5 years or so and I gave it away.
