What's new

First unsolicited compliment in over 10 years!

Any guesses? I dont get unsolicited compliments I think in part because I usually underspray (usually 1-2 sprays only), as I dont want to be cologne guy and definitely dont want to be cologne guy at work.

(spoilers below)

Frederick Malle's PORTRAIT OF A LADY. It's Valentine's Day so a rose scent was appropriate. Just got it this week and this is the first time I've worn it. Only used one spray. Pretty impressive. It's potent stuff, like most Malle's and the one spray projects through my clothes well. I blind bought it since on reviews so many people consider POAL a masterpiece.

Sounds nice, is there pic in there too? if so I cant see it here.

SWMBO got me a bottle of Monotheme Vetiver Borbon, very nice. I had a mere two puffs of it and went out to a hard wear store for some hooks. The place was empty as it's mid week and midday. As I'm walking down the picture isle there's a lady of a certain age (far older than me) as I pass she says to me "nice scent", I've beamed a smile all day. Old women or not it's a compliment and I'll take em from anyone.

I received an unsolicited compliment Monday night this week, for the second time on the same fragrance. As I often do, I sprayed one spray on the back of my left hand as we left for dinner. My wife has a sensitive nose, and if I over apply she lets me know. As I stepped around and behind the server, a young lady, to take my seat, she said "You smell good!". I said "thank you", and after she left my wife asked what I was wearing. I told her Chanel Allure Homme Sport and moved my hand closer to her and she said "Yes, that does smell good".

I probably haven't worn AHS more than 4 or 5 times in the past year. I think I'll wear it more often!

YSL L'Homme and Aventus are my compliment getters. I'm a little disappointed in neroli portofino as I don't get many compliments with that. I don't care because I love it.

I've been complimented on Amouage Jubilation XXV (that got a "damn, you smell nice"), Acqua di Gio (back when I wore it), L'Occitan, which got a "Whatever that is, it's fantastic. That's a lot better than the Nautica my ex wore," and L'Occitane Vetyver and Eau des Baux, which both got a "You smell really nice."

you bought a whole bottle? brave.
I've been looking at trying this for a while but I was a bit worried it might be too feminine.

I got Portrait of a Lady for my wife this Valentine's Day. Now I'm going to have to give it a try. I had several compliments last week. I was wearing the one fragrance that always seems to be complimented on: Montale Patchouli Leaves.
