First time shaving with a Russian Blade

Just shaved this morning with a Voskhod blade I bought from a Latvian source.

Made in Russia. No drag. No burn. Teflon coated for what it's worth.

I liked it better than my Feathers so far. I'd better shave a couple more times before I pass judgement, but all in all a good performance IMHO.:thumbup1:

Bought them from Britva.eu.

I have heard good things about that blade. Do not have it myself, alas. Do have Rapira Super Stainless from that manufacturer, and that is nice blade too.

They seem to have some interesting and hard to find items. How much was shipping for your order?

I had also seen some Voskhod blades pop up on ebay recently but I can't seem to find them now.

It was 6.86 Euros. Not exactly economical. But I couldn't resist. Russian blades. Russian shave cream. Rather exotic. The next time I will buy in bigger quantity to make it more worth it. :001_rolle

That's not too bad. I've seen companies ship stuff from India less than a pound for $15-20 US.

I like these blades and use them regularly.

They are sharp, smooth, and normally last me 5 shaves.

When I bought them even with the weak dollar, I think they were about $22 US shipped.

I am working in Moscow at the moment so enjoying the benefit of shaving with Russian blades.

Not sure if I am influenced by the price but based on this my best blade would be the Rapira Platinum lux which must be out of fashion or something like that because a pack of 5 blades costs just over 25 cents or 8 roubles.

The most expensive shop / supermarket blades here seem to be the Gillette's in their various guises and cost around a dollar for 5 blades (30 roubles).

I will keep looking around but my Scottish blood is like a magnet to the Rapira's :)

Don't forget to stock on the fantastic Red October chocolates. If I was in Russia I would buy a lot of Russian chocolates and shave creams.

I have not tried any Russian shave creams because the only ones that I have seen in the shops are Nivea and Arko, neither of which are native. I used Arko cream couple of years ago and it is fine but then I tried Trumper's and was hooked. I was in London in the summer and visited the Trumper's shop; it was awesome, like stepping back in time, the sights and smells of another age. I picked up a handful of their shaving cream so am stocked for the next couple of years. As for Red October chocolate now that is way too tempting...I just had my first root canal done at a local dentist so am avoiding all confectionery for the foreseeable future!
