First shave with the Feather

been hearing so much about Feather blades, so i finally bought a pack and tried them out yesterday. Decided to cork it, since i read that gives a smoother shave. put the blade in my Fatboy, dialed it down to 3 (usually use 5-7 with Astra SP blades). Did a three pass shave (WTG, ATG, ATG) with very good results. no nicks or irritation, not that i have had any the past 4 weeks. overall i must say i did not notice a difference between this blade and my Astras. Hopefully i can get 4-5 shaves from the Feather, i usually only get 2 with my Astra.

i think the feather blades are quite a bit thicker, at least they seem to be less flexible...do you agree? perhaps that is why they last longer and can be made sharper?

Don't cork it next time. Report back.

I like Astras and Iridiums as well, but none are as close as the Feather. :)

Folks who have issues with Feathers (myself included) seem to have them from shave 2 on in the form of weepers. Shave 1 is usually outstanding.

With me, this issue with subsequent shaves was apparently a flaw in my technique, since I've recently gone back to Feathers without incident and now am wondering if I can use anything else.

I only use Feather blades on a Futur at setting #2 or #2.5 and I get 12-14 shaves out of them.
no irritation.

That's a lot of shaves from one blade!

That has been my experience as well. I'm glad to see more people reporting the same. Once I got out of the mindset of changing the blades after a few shaves in order to "maximize" the experience and instead let the razor and blade let me know when it was time to change out, I went 10 shaves. All great. A real epiphany, but the results couldn't be faked (cut hair easily, no unusual razor burn, smooth).

I could not duplicate this feat with a Derby or Red Pack Personna. I'm using my first Sharp right now and we'll see how it goes.

I am on a pack of feathers now. The last one I used I got 7 good shaves out of it, and was still shaving pretty good when I changed it at 9. The new feather I put in seemed like it dragged more then the replaced blade even after 9 shaves. used the same prep. cant figure it out. I have had this happed with other brands. maybe some just come out sharper then others off the line.

Good to know! I get about 3 or 4 shaves max with my red pack personnas, but I do have some feathers coming. I can't wait to try them

I've gotten 5 shaves from a feather many times. I noticed a pulling, time to change blade, feeling after that.
Of course everyone's mileage will vary.

I normally get 6 or 7 shaves out of a blade but I am shaving around a beard. The main different that I noticed like you will find is better blade life than most others I have tried. I also found no need to crank down to three etc. with a feather. I run them at 7 just as you do with your normal stock. Of course adjust to your on comfort; I guess I am saying they are not a harsh blade to me as I have used them almost exclusively for some time. Good Luck

well i had my second shave with the Feather tonight...dialed up the fatboy to '5' this time. Did a two pass shave (WTG, ATG) and got a better, closer shave than i get with a three pass with my Astra SPs. wow! i think i might officially become a Feather guy!

any advice for upkeep? since i usually go 2 days per blade and it looks like that is going to increase with the Feather, i soaked the head of the razor with blade in rubbing alcohol and put it away for drying.

anything else you can do to extend the life?

do most people not cork the feather blades?

Tried my first Feather today in a Merkur 34G. Close and smooth with fewer passes than usual and no touchups required. I think I liked it.

Congrats on daring to go with a Feather. Great blades but small margin for error. They'll keep you on top of your form and will delvier excellent results.
