First Shave with Proraso

I'm a total newbie, having only started this over a week ago. I had been using Cella shave soap and lathering in a bowl. I read everything on this forum about creating lather and watched several youtube videos about it. I couldn't get anything close to what I saw in videos or pictures. All I could come up with was a thin coating that would disappear off of my face before I finished shaving one side. I ordered a tube of Proraso green and tried it this morning. I easily made that wonderful lather that I see in everyone's pictures. Better yet, I got my best shave since I've been doing this so far this morning. Was it just luck or was it the Proraso? I'm sticking with it and nothing else until the tube runs out. It also made my face feel pretty wonderful with that cooling menthol effect.

I've been Wet shaving for around 8 months now, and only the last few days i've made some great lathers. If your lather is too thin, add more product :)

I am new on this and did not get Proraso.

I got some TOBS (avocado, sensitive and lemon/lime), Musgo Real, Ach Brito Lavender and Arko, among others. Already ordered GFT coconut, on its way.

With all those cited above and cheap brushes (Frank Shaving pure badger and turkish #6 boar or horse who knows ?) I made great lather easily. I prefer face lathering instead of bowl. First metod gives me better results with lather.

Am I missing something not having Proraso ?

(maybe I will only know when I get it...)

I had my first Proraso shave today. It came in the mail yesterday. I have to say it was the richest, thickest, most luxurious lather I have had to date. The shave was just wonderful! Extremely close and no razor burn at all. I have heard for a while how great this cream was, but I was of the mind that shave cream was all the same. Just the scent was different. I was totally wrong. The Proraso Red I have is extraordinary! I love it! I bowl lather. I guess bowel lathering helps with keeping your lather warm. ;)

I had a difficult time getting Cella to lather, so I sold it and now I use TOBS and Proraso exclusively with great results.

I love both Cella and Proraso. They work wonderfully for me.

Just practice lathering in your palm. Play around with the product:water ratio and occasionally run your thumb across your palm to test for slickness and cushion. And then just wipe that hand on your face once it's ready. It's the only way I go when working with new products.

Also, some gents around here talk about a "fingerprint test", in which you run your thumb from the lathering hand (not the brush hand) across the fingertips of the lathering hand. If you can't feel your fingerprints, then it's likely slick enough and cushiony enough to shave with.

Cella makes a wonderful lather, but it's thirsty. You have to add a lot of water.

Proraso is great, too. If you're happy with Proraso, go with it! I never hear anything negative said about it.

I plan on having my first shave with Proraso tomorrow. I'm hoping for great results.
Do ya'll find Badger or Boar brushes to work better with Proraso. I have a Omega 48 coming so it is a boar.

Proraso was the first good quality cream that I'd ever used and started my journey into my quest to find my favorite cream. Impossible I know lol

It was the first shaving soap i used by shaving with a DE Razor over 1 year ago.The Proraso has such a nice scent and the menthol in it is only wonderful. The soap as well as the cream are giving me very thick lather so i can shave very easily.

You can´t do NOTHING wrong with Proraso.

Proraso will also always have a place in my rotation; affordable, widely available and accurate enough for the purpose. It's the AK-47 of shaving...

I should note that the Proraso I was talking about was the Proraso Red. I am loving it! So much so, that today I ordered up some Proraso Green and Proraso Blue. I have no self control when it comes to acquiring shaving items. I just happen to be in a shaving cream phase at the moment.

:biggrin1:

I performed my first wet and de shave last night. using Proraso green in a tub. Loved it. Nice thick lather.. I had enough for 5 passes!....ummm...my face however wished I had not done 5 passes as I had some slight skin irritiation.
Proraso has definatly got my lifetime support.
Any Cult of Proraso groups around here?
