First shave with Gem Jewel... help!

Hi all. Had my first shave with my new Gem Jewel this morning and enjoyed it... felt fantastic, and loved the audible feedback. Trouble is, it wasn't a close shave by any stretch of the imagination. Did my usual prep then a WTG pass followed by XTG, then moved to ATG when it started tugging.... too much stubble left. Normally with my aristocrat I would be DFS if not BBS with this. My question is why.... I realise it's a new technique to learn, but I was being so careful with angle. Might it be the blades? I bought some gem ones from the pharmacy, but I don't know if they are coated or not... they're labelled 'single edge scraper blades'. What do you think? Thanks as always.

If the blades you used were not specifically made for shaving, then the blade is most certainly the culprit, as it would be much to dull to effectively cut hair.

I don't think the blades made by Gem, specifically for shaving, say "single edge scraper blades" on them. The packaging should look like this, and the blades will be in the shaving isle:

Wrong blades might be the problem.
GEM by personna don't have scraper blades on the packet. And the ted pella GEMs may say "industrial blades" or "industrial use only" but they don't say 'scraper blades'

Thanks for all the help. I've had a scour of pharmacies here, and these are the only blades I can find! Arrgh. They're also stored with all the other razor blades... not helpful. I can't find anywhere else here in New Zealand to buy them, and I'm reluctant to buy 200 pella blades at the moment as I really just want to try this razor out and see if it is for me or not. I don't suppose any kind member would consider selling me five good quality blades to get me started? Please PM me if you would consider this. Many, many, many thanks!
