First shave with an Old Type

Last month, I bought a Rhodium-plated Old Type from Jeff2011 here at B&B(thanks!). Today, I used a new (to me) soap, sold at the Farmer's Market that comes across the street every Saturday. It lathered up so nicely (and densely) on my face, that I decided to try the Old Type for the first time. I've been shaving with DE's for 40 years (mostly Super Speeds), so I knew to discount the super scary stories. Yes, this is a razor of almost North Korean agressiveness, and yes, you have to be careful and take a little time. This is definitely not the one to use when you have a hangover...

I love this razor. It gives you sound feedback like a single-edge, and that helps you in finding the right angle - the louder the better. It was going so well, I did a second pass (which is not what I regularly do), and got something close to a BBS.

BTW, I had forgotten what blade I'd loaded it with when it went to the "on deck circle" a few weeks ago. I was curious, so I opened the razor to find - a Derby! That blade doesn't get a lot of respect around here, but it sure did a great job for me today.

Good to hear you like it....I want to get an Old Type replated because I love mine. I find it fairly mild and, usually use a Derby in it.

Hey, a pic would go nicely in this thread. :001_tt1:

Old Types rock. I have several that I use. Couple of custom razors with old type heads and a couple of Gillette full old type razors.

I'm always satisfied with the shave I get from any of them.

And I also like Derby blades :001_tt2:

Glad to hear the Old is working for you! I haven't used mine in a while and might have to take it for a spin this week.
