First shave with 2013 R41!

Here is the review that was requested on my previous thread about importing an R41.

Love this razor! I used to shave with an r89. 3 passes with this bad boy and BBS BBS BBS!!! Just because this razor is not 2011 does not mean this razor is not aggressive. At a 30 degree angle you can feel nothing but blade. I did my first run with a feather. Only weepers I got was when I got cockey and moved too swiftly. All in all I love my new r41 and don't be scared if you are looking to make the switch. If you take your time and concentrate you will have one of the best shaving experiences of your life.

Sounds great, I used to have a 2011 and traded it off due to it being just too aggressive for my tastes. Maybe I will reconsider the 2013.

Good luck with yours. I find the older model just fine for me so probably won't try the newer one

I have the 2011 and won a PIF for the new 2013 head. Although I liked the 2011 the new one is quite a bit easier to use. The new design has for lack of a better phrase increased the margin of error. The efficiency has not been reduced. It took 4 days growth off in 2 passes plus touch ups. The new cap has greatly reduced blade flexing and reduced the sound/audio feedback but not by much. With the old head the angle for me had to be steep or it would shred my face, with the new head I can decrease the angle to how a normal DE shaves. Which reduces irritation for me. All and all I would say that they have improved the design to be able to accommodate more shavers. And greatly reduced the learning curve. It's still the most aggressive DE I have used. It's just more shaver friendly. IMHO. Just finished with my third shave using the new head and it's the most comfortable BBS yet. And a lot less work and touchups. I can use this new head in ways that were not available with the old like running the razor East-West under my jaw, Crazy thought with the old head it would have slit my throat.

For now.... I couldn't see using a more aggressive razor. It is 14 hours since I shaved and my face is still pretty damn smooth. With my r89 I'd feel stubble growing back in 6 hours. And I can see sunflake's point about the 2011 blade flexing. I could just see that being dangerous. At the right angle, you can tilt the 2013 to put nothing but blade on your face. Anything more aggressive would be a straight edge.

Well, I can't really justify another DE which the 40+ I already have and the 2011 R41 being one of them.... what a minute!.... does it come with the rose gold handle (which I do not have)? There you go.... another reason.

Ben

My first shave with my 2013 R41 was by far my best shave ever. It took nearly 20 hours for stubble to grow in compared to my Merkur 34C and 1904 which I'd be lucky to get 10. The next 2 shaves were good but I nicked myself on my neck (which is always a trouble area for me).

Thanks Jray19306 for the review. I just ordered one of the newer models today. I can't wait to try it out. Good luck with yours it sounds like your off to a great start.

The brush demensions from Muhle are 31mmx100mm. I'm glad I could help Tomharr, I'm sure you are going to love this razor. As for the set, thank you for all the compliments. I like the rose gold. I think it's kind of cool that its a limited release so I kindof have a rarity to pass onto my kids one day. If anyone hasn't been to the muhle website, check them out. They have tons of different handles for brushes and razors alike that are absolutely stunning. It's a shame their brushes aren't regarded as much as their razors but they make beautiful sets.
