I have only been De shaving for about a month now. I have been using kiss my face mint shave cream and WARS shave cream. Today I used my first soap williams shave soap. The biggest thing I noticed was that it dries on your face within seconds. I think I like the creams better because they never dry on your face . It reminds me of if I just rubbed the shaving cream on my face then let it dry for about 30 minutes. Are all soaps like this ?

What Saltcheck said - read carefully through the tutorials on building a lather from soap. And then practice, practice, practice.
There are a lot of excellent soaps that can produce a quality protective lather as long as you are using the right technique. And William's is one of them actually if your technique is good - although I've found making really good lather with other soaps a little bit easier to do.
