What's new

First restore

Picked up this Sanax a while back, finally dove in:

The top basically fell off (it was a never used brush, but since I needed to glue the base on anyways, might as well go all the way, eh?).

I drilled out the old, cleaned it up and made the hole a bit larger to take a TGN 22mm Finest Badger Fan Shape that I bought in April. Filled it w/ epoxy and used the rubber bands as clamps. I put the tape on to mark how far down to push the knot, but I forgot and left it on. I didn't look to see if the glue had pushed up, which it did. Looks like flashing from a plastic mold. In fact, it looks like it's from the top. I thought I cleaned that up though.

I just spent a minute with my pocket knife and I can carefully, slowly clean that excess off. I can at least minimize it.

I set it about 48mm or so, I'm not sure where you all measure from. Certainly from the shoulder but to the tallest hair? It may be set higher, though not having enough experience I went for a nice look.

I bet it works.

Not bad at all. A bit of a new approach to the assembly, but it looks nice and I am quite sure it will be a good brush.

Excellent job Jim :thumbup1:

I use minimal two part clear epoxy to set my knots.

I just sand the knot holder roughly to give it a bit more grip and then lightly cover the bottom and sides of the holder. Minimizes the chances of excess epoxy oozing up.

I haven't had a knot fall out yet but only time will tell but then if it comes out I can just reglue in.

Yes loft is from where the hair exits the handle to the tallest tip.

Finest should be fine set at around 49mm :001_smile

May it be the first of many :biggrin1:
