First outing with a Feather-- My Shave Experience (Nice!)

After 8 months of wetshaving and honing my technique, I tried a Feather DE blade for the first time. My go to razors have been Fat Boys, Slims, Super Adjustables and for the non-adjusters, the 40's Aristocrat and the Red Tip. My standard blades have been Derby, Crystal, Merkur (!), Gillette 7 o'clocks, yellow BICs and Walgreens no-names. I've been experimenting with a few sample packs, but I purposefully held off on the Feathers until I felt experienced enough.

So today was the day. Used C&E Nomad soap, my Rooney 3/1 Super and loaded a Feather for her maiden voyage in a favorite 40's notched Aristocrat.

The results? I was very careful with my technique and fortunately had no nicks. Three passes, with, across, and against the grain. The satisfying sound of whiskers being clipped was apparent. Very easy to use, no pulling. Finished with Nivea aftershave balm. A BBS super smooth shave that felt closer than any I have had in recent memory.

I have the feeling this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship!

Good for you! I too tried a feather first time 3 days (shaves) ago. While I didn't escape irritation for the first shave, #2 and 3 have gotten progressively better. I'll say one thing: these are definitely the closest shaves of any blade I've tried. They do require that I pay strict attention though.

Feathers are great. No need to fear them, just respect them and they will not bite you. I find the extra sharpness leads to an easier and, perforce, better shave.

Enjoy!

Day two: Still an excellent shave. Not quite as whisper quiet sharp cutting as day one, but still a fine close shave. Had to pay a bit closer attention to get as close a shave as the day before. On to day three!!
