What's new

First MWF experience

An order of MWF came in the other day, and after reading up on it was a little intimidated. But even with hard water, was blown away. I face lathered and felt like I was moving pillows around my face, and shaved really well.

I think next time I will get it with the ceramic holder rather then the refill.

I've come to the conclusion that all of the horror stories about being able to lather MWF are just that, stories. We commonly have suspended gypsum dust in our water and always have hardness that is off the charts when I test for my aquariums or pond, and I haven't had any difficulty getting it lather. I suppose it is possible that it depends on what minerals are making your water hard, but so far, so good in my neck of the woods.

Love that fat. The ceramic bowl is well worth the money. It is the only thing that I leave out on my counter. It looks great.

These are not stories -- produces thin lather with my soft water. Somewhat fixed the lathering issue with face lathering and added cream.

For me, French soaps lather with no problems.

Yes, this is one I will always have in my den. It is an outstanding performer. I like the ceramic dish as well and think that is worth the money.

Have never had too much trouble getting a rich protective lather with the Fat. Yes, may take a little longer to load and build lather, but worth it IMHO.

I struggled to get it to make good looking lather at first, but then I just used it a few times in a row. Even when the lather doesn't look as thick as some soaps produce, it still povides outstanding shaves every time and leaves your face feeling oh so soft. Scent is nice and not overpowering too. Just great stuff!

Early on in my "shave journey", I picked up some Fat, and had difficulty getting good lather. I think you've hit on a good point - that it takes a bit longer than many soaps. That was certainly my problem, and I'm convinced this is why 99% of its detractors say it's difficult to lather. Gave it another spin once I had a bit of experience under my belt, and have had no problems at all. Great lather, and it definitely is more skin conditioning than just about anything else out there.

Newbies, please do not persuaded by this cult following like I was as a newbie. Keep experimenting with other soap and creams. Trust me you will discover far superior.

Obviously its YMMV. If a newbie wants to try it, its a $13 puck. If you don't like it, you'll have no problem trading it on BST. I like it.

I have recently picked up a refill puck of it. Got the knack of getting a nice lather after a couple of shaves. Gotta say its is wonderful protective stuff and my face loves it. Will be ordering the ceramic dish when the puck is getting low since the olde-timey look of it is well approved by the LOTH.

That is my take on this as well. I think MWF is a very easy soap to lather in most water conditions, but it can be harder to load before you get the hang of it.
