Well, I am relatively new to wet shaving with DE razor, but I am loving it so far. I have been rotating between my EJ DE89L (which I love) and a Feather AS-D2 (which I am liking, but not loving...yet. However, only shaved with it twice).
Blade used: Personna Precision
Razor: Joris OC with genuine horn handle
Soap: Prorasso (Eucalyptus and Menthol)
Brush: Parker Pure Badger brush
After Shave: Prorasso Pre/Post shave (white jar)
So this was my first shave with an OC razor and it happened to be a Joris. I found that it didn't seem overly aggressive. I liked the way the blade cut my stubble and I liked the way the razor felt on my face. I used little to no pressure and just let the weight of the head do the work. It did not feel like the blade was scraping off my skin. The angle I used was about 30 degrees and sometimes less.
I was able to do 3 passes - WTG, XTG, ATG with no nicks. I got a BBS shave. At first I felt no irritation, but about 30 minutes later, felt a little razor burn around my jaw and neck area (kind of like an itch you get from an allergic reaction). I was also able to do some blade buffing with no problems with the Joris.
For my first OC shave...I really liked how the Joris worked for me and is a keeper. BTW, for those who are concerned about the horn handle...it felt great. The balance with the handle and the head was perfect. I never felt that I was going to drop the razor. I generally keep my hands clean and dry while shaving, but even with a little water dripping onto the handle it still felt secure in my hand.
If this is what people call "aggressive" then I think I don't mind this razor and may have to think about trying some more OC razors. I was apprehensive at first as I read other forums and members saying that shaving with a Joris requires an "experienced hand" and to be "very careful" or you can "cut up your face." I'm glad I decided to try an OC razor.
I actually am thinking of the Tradere OC or SB. Anyone out there have tried the Tradere OC (2nd gen) and the Joris? How much milder is it than the Joris. I actually like mild/moderate razors as well...so if the Tradere is milder I would not mind either.
Well, hope this helps others out there to try OC and not be apprehensive...the shave is wonderful
