First Injector/First SE, Fleamarket Find.

SO today was week two remembering that if I get myself out of bed early enough I can head to of my local fleamarket, independant vendors sell there thursday and sunday. This was also week two of finding close to exactly what I was looking for. Last week I found one of the mysterious "blank for concaving" wade and butchers, which I need to lightly sand/polish and send off to be honed. This week I was on the prowl for an injector, and what do you know, one presented itself to me. If it had been exactly what I was looking for it would have been a nice L type. But beggars really can't be choosers. Besiseds this little guy has already got my foot in the door.

An E type! There's no Eversharp anywhere on it, so that makes it pre 1946. Pretty nice shape for such an old razor! The funny thing is I pointed out to the guy the razor had nothing to do with the case, he shrugged his shoulders and sold me the lot for $10. Can't be beat at that price. This is post cleaning, but it really wasn't that dirty. I soaked it in hot water, and gave it a scrubbing bubbles bath. Anything else I should do to disinfect it or should that suffice? I found a woman selling an array of razor carts, but there were some schick branded injector blades for 5$ even - for 1 box of 7. Knowing thats essentially street price ( a little cheaper ) I decided to pass for the time being knowing I can get the blades there any thursday or sunday for 5$. I'll give this bad boy a try soon no doubt, and possibly post up my shave results/thoughts.

Last but not least, the un-matched case! It's marked for a GEM micromatic, and all the blades are SE's, but I have no GEM style razors to try out the blades in and match the case. Just another razor brand/style/type to try out when I get around to it. Considering I got the case for free (IMO I paid 10$ for the injector alone, and the case was a freebie/extra) I owe it to the little square chunk of plasic and autostrop (one GEM too) blades to get myself a micromatic to snug into the case sooner rather than later.

Man I really love the fleamarket:punk:

I've already put a bid on a micromatic on fleabay. Luckily for me they're pretty cheap, RAD is setting in it seems......

Good score, doesn't look like it has any brassing. The E type is one of my favorite razors, but I wouldn't use old blades (if that is what you are talking about). The edges may have deteriorated which would be hard to know until you put it to your face. Do yourself a favor and hunt down some of the new in the box Chinese Schick blades.

And that case, is it one of the bakelite ones? Looks like it. I have that at home, but I can't remember...

Yeah the metal on this guy was in great shape under all the gunk that was on it when I purchased it. There was what looked like cardboard inbetween the blade/bar when I got it....not sure about that. While cleaning I also figured out how the spring swings to the side to get the top to open up, cleaned out a lot more gunk in there as well. Overall I'm super happy with it. Like I said, ironically enough I was hoping to find an injector at the fleamarket, and boom, snatched one up for dirt cheap!

The case I believe is bakelite, it's kinda a green tortise color, but it seems thin/hollow enough to be bakelite, comparing it to the handle of the injector anyway. Also the blades I recieved are all GEM style SE blades, so I definitely won't be trying them in this injector. But I might give one a shot if I wind up with a GEM micromatic (which I have a feeling I will). All the blades are 100% sealed, and if theres no rust on the blade I'll give one or two a shot. I do know that I have to be extra super carefull, and I'll be throwing the blade out if it winds up biting due to blade deterioration

I think that is a great price for a clean E type. Congrats. [ love your writing style, very captivating and keeps readers interested ]

Hey thanks a lot for the compliment! Believe it or not, I struggled a lot with grammar, spelling, and bad penmanship a lot when I was younger. Now I'm an English major, go figure! I still don't have the best grammar/spelling sometimes, I need to clean up what I write a lot. But I have been told before that I can tell a good story.

Back on topic. From what I'm seeing the E type (and G type) is the most prevelant injector, there's tons of them on ebay that don't sell for too much more. But finding this one in the wild was great, and now I'm way more interested in SE's then I ever would have been. DE's are doing me well, but I can't wait to try out a few SE's.

I knew you was either a writer or English major I sensed it...maybe it's that we both are from Jersey:thumbup1:

I had my first shave with it today after finding some blades locally and picking up some barbicide for a final soak to put my mind at ease. It was like shaving with a stick of butter, awesome shave, but friends were on their way over so I rushed it a bit, didn't get bbs except on the cheeks ( I wear a beard, but hate having any hair on the upper cheeks/neck so I shave around the short beard pretty frequently) and I irritated my neck a bit, definitely no suprise cuts, but overall a pleasant first shave!

I also won the Bullet Tip Micromatic I threw a bid at on ebay to snug into the case pictured above. Can't wait to recieve that and give it a try too! SE's fit my budget better anyway, I won the ebay listing for 2.75$ with a matching shipping cost of 2.75$. But that one might need it's own thread depending on how nice it cleans up.
