first experience making scales -pictures

I had been reading for awhile about making your own acrylic scales and it was pretty interesting and thought it looked doable. Here I go a little off topic, I bought my second razor from Whipped Dog. A cosmetically flawed one, just to practice honing with. I got a little over zealous while polishing and broke the slightly cracked scales. Definitely nothing against larry and whipped dog, this was purely my fault.
SO back on track! I had been researching how to make acrylic scales and now had a need for some new scales..perfect!

I work at a light fixture company and we have plenty of scrap pieces of acrylic and all the tools required, more or less. so I grabbed some pieces of 1/8th inch white alabaster acrylic, a template, and got to work.

I apologize if the pictures don't come out all that well, they are taken with my iphone camera. Also sorry I don't have any pictures during the in between phases.
I somewhat closely followed the DIY acrylic scales thread by legion I found, if you are interested I highly recommend looking at posts on the matter.

for the wedge pin I used a 4-40 button head screw, I ended up just tapping the hole and screwing that in and didn't have to worry about a nut on the other side since the hole was threaded

for the pivot pin, after scouring the shop and not finding any 1/16th screws I used a piece of 1/16th aluminum rod solder and hopefully that hold up well

the scales are not perfect and the blade does pull a bit to the left but all in all pretty happy about my first attempt

If anyone has any tips, feedback, or questions I am more than willing to hear it and grateful

my boss wants to make rubber molds of a scale and try out some different resins for effects, hopefully I'll be adding some new pictures soon!!
Thanks for checking it out

Well done! Now you are ready to tackle that figured ziricote wood or mammoth ivory that has been laying around the house forever!

Thanks guys! Im not sure about working with wood or ivory yet haha scares me a little...perhaps try the rubber mold and see how that pans out

Very nice  Fingers crossed that my first attempt at making scales will go so well (but that will be sometime in the future).

I think you should just jump in! I didn't think I'd be trying it for awhile but out of necessity had to and am thankful I did!
