I recently purchased my first boar: the B&B essential brush.
It's a nice brush, but considerably different than my usual Kent BK 8.
First there was that pesky break-in period. For the first couple of weeks it didn't want to make lather easily. After that, it was a champ.
It takes quite a bit longer to make lather than my Kent. I find it helps to really whip the lather. Some of this extra time is no doubt due to the fact that it's half the size of the BK8.
I have to soak it before use. The Badger requires about 11 seconds of water before use, the boar requires a good soak. I'm not sure how long, but the length of my shower seems to suffice.
The Kent holds more than enough lather for the entire face. I have to dip a couple of times with the boar - which has not broken my arm yet.
The boar has more backbone for face lathering.
The Kent is still my favorite brush. On the other hand, I could buy 6 of these boars for the same price as one Kent. It's a nice brush and I'm happy to have the experience of using a boar.
