First Attempt with SE Razors

Thanks to the generosity of Gillette4259, I recently received a Eversharp / Schick G type, a Schick I type razor, and a bunch of Schick blades. I have never used SE razors before, but I've been using a DE razor for years and I've mixed some "real" straight razors and a disposable straight razor into my routine in the past six months or so.

I started off with the I type. My first impression was that these are pretty hard to cut yourself with. I usually give myself a cut or two when I'm trying out a new type of razor, but I didn't cut myself at all with this. I had trouble getting a close shave with this razor though; my five o'clock shadow normally came in around noon. I was also slightly irritated the first time I used it, although that didn't happen the other times.

After 3-4 shaves, I switched to the G type. I had trouble again getting a close shave the first time I used it, but the second time I got a much closer shave, like I would get with my DE razor. I don't know how much of this is the razor and how much is the learning curve.

For all the shaves, I used Proraso pre-shave cream, T&H Grafton shaving cream, and either Clubman Pinaud aftershave or T&H 1805 aftershave balm.

WOW same experience I've had with these, first irritation second not so close of a shave the first time around but it did get better. I think I'm going to try some different blades and not give up on it just yet. I hope some of you injector guys can put your two cents in on using these. I like the low profile that they have and for a quick shave when I'm running late I wouldn't have to use the trac 2 around corners like I do now with the DE because of my mustache.
Thanks for the post LeverTime
