What's new

First Appa Kappa experience

ACCA KAPPA

Went undeniably well, even with a menacing ASTRA in my slant. (How did that even GET in there?)

The "hard cream" consistancy is new to me as I almost always use MWF and TABAC. This stuff really likes WATER! Took me a while to hit the spot.

I am a bit confused as what is the best way to load the brush. It isn't as easy as dipping the tips into a softer cream like TOBS, but if I try to load it like a soap, I would have WAY too much product. I face lather, so doing the almond size scoop thing doesn't work for me.

Nonetheless, I positive experience. What a nice smell. My face felt soft as when I use MWF. Gotta get a proper blade in there next time. Maybe a Red Personna, Gillette Blue, Or feather.:w00t:

I load my brush like a soap so that the bristles have a light covering of cream. I then face lather. It's very similar to Castle Forbes creams in that a little provides copious amounts of lather. My absolute favourite cream.

Yes, this soap is incredibly good. It is now my #1 cream.

I use an old collar stay and dig out a bit of the cream and put it into my shaving mug, and then add the water and whip it up.

Tried Acca Kappa for the first time this week also and it quickly became one of my top 3 soaps!

I think my SSAD has been satisifed (for a while at least :w00t:) with Cella, P.160, MWF and now Acca Kappa!

Acca Kappa continually gets rave reviews in both the shaving soap and shaving cream forums. Why get caught up in the details?

By the way, I love the OP's reason for editing his post.:tongue_sm

Marco raved about this cream in a thread last week. I bought it off Amazon a couple months back after reading the review on this site. It really is a a soft soap. I just scoop an almond size amount out of the tub with my finger and wipe it on my face. I get the brush out of the hot water and let it drain, then start to whip up a lather. Because it is so dense it takes just a bit longer than a cream to lather up. Usually before the third pass I add a few drops of water to keep the lather going. My son did not like this cream after I sent it to him. Thankfully he is sending it back so that I can add to my supply. Nice looking tub, too!

David, the vast majority of the Italian shaving creams and soaps have the consistency of dense creams or soft soaps. Some brands simply call their products creams (for example Acca Kappa, SMN, AdP, Figaro). The proper definition should be "cream soap", placing these products in their own in between category. But this proper definition is used only by Valobra (Valobra, Crema di Sapone Purissima) and Cella (Cella, Crema Sapone Extra Extra Purissima), which are the two most ancient Italian brands. And, in my opinion, Valobra and Cella are also the very best we have in Italy.

Thank you Marco for your clarification. It's good to see that the oldest brands knew what they were talking about when they named them. I don't really mind though. They are all great, no matter what they are!!!
