What's new

Finally shaved off the goatee

After 12 years with a goatee, I shaved it off this morning. Wow, I forgot it could be tough to shave the chin and under my nose! One nick and a couple weepers but not too bad.

I was getting tired of trying to shave around it with a straight (just started with that so I don't need any extra obstacles) and thought I'd try something new.

I kind of like it, but SWMBO tells me I look like a kid. She'd never seen me without the goatee. Oh well, she's 15 years younger than me so she shouldn't complain.:001_tongu

I take mine off every summer just for the fun of the shave; my wife tolerates it :)001_rolle) but isn't used to see me like that either.

Every year when we are about to go on vacation she asks me if I am going to shave it off again, with that look on her face.
Can't resist to disappoint her and say yes; but it'll be back in a few weeks love..

I know what you mean about that look. Something tells me this isn't going to be a permanent condition for me.:bored:

I look like a kid also if I shave my sideburns...

I had a goatee for 5 years in my early 20s and finally shaved it off because I was after a cleaner look...

I see what you mean by not having obstacles while shaving! :001_smile

I took mine off after I brokeup with my girlfriend a few months ago.

I look 12 without my goatee, but I really wanted to get rid of the goatee that makes me look like my exs father. That was the whole reason she wanted me to grow it!

Lame and sad, I know.

Now I enjoy not having my goatee pulled on, and the BBS shave.
I doubt ill ever go back.

I'm definitely liking the new look. I'll work on SWMBO. But I look at it this way, now I have more playground to use my new toys on!

It's funny you should post this today. I have a customer that I hooked into wet shaving just three weeks ago. He was in the shop this afternoon and said he thought it was time to shave off his goatee so he could have more to shave.
I told him "you'll see this kind of post all the time on B&B". Sure enough not four hours later and here's one....:wink2:

Do you have any sort of difference in the skin tone where the goatee was?

For example, is the skin lighter than the parts of your face that have been openly exposed to sunlight?

I've had mine for almost 15 years now, and although I have trimmed it very short, I've never been without it.

Grow sideburns instead. IMHO, they are much easier to care for than a goatee, and give you an "older" look without the potential "lowlife" look. I grow mine straight down from where my hair line curves around my forehead, and finish in line with the bottom of my ears - nice easy markers on the face to shape them. To keep the growth down, I use a set of electric pet hair clippers, essentially a small battery operated set of electric hair clippers. They need trimming back once every couple of months for me, but YMWV (your mileage will vary) because my beard grows very slowly.

Fortunately, my summer tan faded, so no difference in color. It is a bit more sensitive, but I think that will probably fade with time as well. I forgot I had a small scar on my chin and nicked that pretty well.

Thanks for the suggestion. However, I shave my head so I don't think the sideburns would look very good.:w00t:

I haven't shaved my mustache & goatee in.....hmmmm....13 years? Been married 11.5 years, dated a little over 1.5 before that, my wife's never seen me without.
Just shaved my cheeks for the first time in 8 years last summer, was the first time my kids had seen me with shaved face, before that I'd just trim real short with beard trimmer, but since I took up DE, I wanted to try it out, and liked it :biggrin1:

But I don't see the mustache & goatee leaving anytime, so congrats for ya!

Well I've had my goatee for quite a while now (about 15 years) but shave it off every once in a while and immediately regrow it (not sure why but I feel its better for the skin that way). Strangely the longest period I had it off was when I got married - I didnt want my wedding photos to have me in a goatee and wince when I look back in 20 years at what might have been a passing phase. However, this has stuck on and I'm so used to it now (as is the SWMBO and friends) I probably will keep it on for a long time!
