Finally making progress! due to Edwin Jagger

Well, I've been DE shaving for about a month now (actually a little less than that because I cheated with my Mach 3 a while back), but I'm definitely making some progress. Until today I've been using a '55 Super Speed and a '60 Super Speed. Better shaves (not great), nicks have gone away and less irritation. But today my Edwin Jagger DE-87 (ivory handle) arrived and I shaved with it for the first time (used a Shark blade). What a difference! My cheeks were definitely BBS, neck very close and only minor irritation on the neck that was pinkish colored instead of red. It must be a combination of it's weight, balance, blade exposure and angle, because I could feel it plowing through the whiskers with very little effort. It feels great in your hand and is very easy to control. I really wish I would have bought the EJ weeks ago. The Super Speeds do a decent job, but in some areas my beard is very coarse and wiry and they just didn't seem up to the challenge without requiring several passes. The Edwin Jagger DE-87 was my best shave yet and I highly recommend it! I have some Red Pack Personnas and Feathers coming and I'm anxious to try them in the EJ.

you have quite a continuum of blades there between red pack personnas and feathers.

the red personnas are mild, smooth and forgiving. the feathers are sharp as hell and will gladly take off dermis with the whiskers still attached! (mostly kidding)

seriously, be careful with the feathers. zero pressure and no against the grain until you know how yer skin will react.

The DE-87 is one of my two primary razors (the other's a Slim). I know exactly the feeling of "WOW" that you describe after the first shave. It was an eye opener for me.

I use Iridiums and Gillette Yellow 7:00 O'Clocks as my primary blades. Both work well for me....
