Finally find something I can't buy!

There is this BIG thrift store 2 blocks from my home. I've been in there once before and it was just jam packed with furniture and trinkets and looks like a huge indoor garage sale. Well I didn't find anything interesting so I left.

I go back today at least 7 months since the last visit and it's much of the same, probably worse. Well I finally saw something I wanted!

Looks like a NOS GEM SE


And then a GEM Jr. and a PAL injector along with various vintage razor blades, and other shave related gear.




These items are in this HUGE, long display case, straight out of a pharmacy. lots of other NOS items but non shave related as well. I find someone to ask if they are selling this stuff and turns out yes they are! but alas, not individually, you have to buy the whole display case. Which is several pieces the biggest at least 7-8 feet high and 6-7 feet wide. The piece that these razors were in was about 4 feet high and 7+ feet long, along with a few other smaller cases.

The story is they came out of a pharmacy in Lombard, IL. A pharmacy that recently closed that was in business for 3 generations. Every case was packed with NOS health and beauty products.

This is a pic of one of the cases and they all were packed like this, the problem was it was so tight I couldn't' get any real pictures of everything! In the 2nd pic you can see all the stuff reflected off the glass that's in the case in front of it.




Now the kicker.....they want $89,000 for all the cases and contents.

Imagine the goodies that are in there!

my thoughts exactly. The owner of the place said that the guys from American Pickers wanted to buy it but they didn't want to pay what he was asking. Well no kidding.

"Well we aren't collectors and we can't pay full price." I wish I could get away with this some times. "You say $100 and I'm at $40. There wouldn't be enough meat on the bone if I pay you $41. So... What do you say? Ok, your at $100, how about you throw in that box of old straight razors and, I'll pay $100."

This never works for me.

I tried this at the gas station too.

"What is the price if I buy thirty gallons?"
The same.
"what if I buy 40 Gallons?"
Sir, I don't understand what you are asking.
"There is no bulk discount?"

I'm in for $60... if everyone of the 1526 members online right now does the same thing, we can have enough. Then, we just have to figure out how to make it a world-wide pass-around box.

Nah.

I'm positive there are some treasures in there, but the problem is finding a collector that wants them. As most of it is old medicine and health items. Nothing that you would actually use today.

It is very cool though, and if there was a reasonable price on it....a very reasonable price I'd consider it., that is if I had $89,000

That would be awesome if you plan on opening a pharmacy. Even then $89,000 is ridiculous. I wonder how they came to that price anyways?

Sounds pretty ridiculous..... Leave the owner your number after a few years of him "sitting on it" & see if he changes his tune about not wanting to sell the razors individually....you might get lucky !
