I have been DE shaving for about a week and I have notice that the razor has a film on it that I can wipe off with my finger. Is the from how hard my water is or from something else?

I have that stuff happen to my razors also. It is hard water and soap scum wiping them will keep it clean. If left to build up over time use some scrubbing bubbles and it will shine up again.
+1 for scrubbing bubbles, cheap and works great.
+2. I use it when I change my blades.
I find a little foaming hand soap rubbed on the razor before rinsing takes this off. If it builds up scrubbing bubbles works great.

Thanks. I just wanted make sure it wasnt the water or soap eating the finish off the razor.
Scrubbing Bubbles says "not for brass" right on the container.
I use it anyway with no issue.

You're actually shaving off too much off your face each time!
just wipe off your razor between blades and you'll be fine
I get it on my brush handle. It is just soap.
You can clean it every once in a while with
colgate toothpaste and an old toothbrush.

I just did that and now it looks like it did when I bought it.
