Feather Fear not here

Bought my first pack of Feather DE blades.

After reading the many tales of weepers and raw skin I started shaving with fear and trepidation the other day.

To my delight I had a great BBS shave, 3 passes and nary a scratch.

I must be really very fortunate. I have read many stories of bad shaves using Feathers or other Razors and so on. I have had a few nicks and things the last couple of weeks but no way could I call these times bad shaves.

Probably also the advice on this site is just great for being wary of all the pitfalls.

I'm sure sooner or later I'll have a bad shave but so far so good.

You know I loaded a Feather out of my sampler pack into my Slim set on 5 this morning for the first time. Best shave I have ever had. My first BBS shave with no irritation or face butchering with only 3 passes. Great blade! Now I want to see how long one will last. If I can get at least 5 shaves out of it, I will order a 100 pack. Most blades only last me 3 or 4 shaves.

I have never had a problem with feathers unless I try to use them for more than 2 shaves. Trying to get a third shave from them kills my face.

I am one of those totally lost in what many think about the supposedly dreaded Feather. I have used a feather blade since the second week of DE shaving, at the start of this year. Very occasionally, and only occasionally, when I let my concentration slip, do I get the smallest of cuts. 99.99% though they give me the very best of shaves. I'm always willing to try another brand but they never seem to match what I'm used to and keep going back. Have some Bolzano's on the way. Maybe, just maybe, I can be swayed?

I use Feathers 99% of the time because they are the sharpest, smoothest blade I've found. They cause me less irritation than others because they require less pressure and fewer touch ups. I can get 7 shaves easily out of mine.

I had a similar experience with my first Feather shave- it was near perfection. Then about 4-5 shaves in (not with the same blade) I started to get some weepers and razor burn. I think it's because of all the horror stories that I was especially attentive to my technique the first couple of shaves but as my confidence grew I stopped paying quite as much attention :blushing:

Now they're my regular blade, but I do get occasionally nicked during a momentary lapse of attention, especially with my slant around my chin.

Feathers are most definitely the best blade there is...by quite a large margin, i find i can't get many shaves from them though. But it's a small price to pay really, the only other blade that i can use quite happily as a replacement to feathers are gillete 7 O'clocks(yellow) they are very good blades also...i still prfer feathers of course but you can't go wrong with Gillette, a tad milder on the skin also.

+1 and even the second shave can be challenging your luck. Not my #1 mostly for their lack of stamina.

I have been using Feathers exclusively for just about one year. At first I was concerned about their well earned reputation for ripping the flesh right off your face. But careful attention to the basics and a little common sense and before you know it, great shaves and in my case fewer passes. Just remember to never let your guard down, respect it's sharpness, and you will be rewarded with great shaves and a smooth face. For me they also last longer than other blades I've used which helps balance out the cost factor.

I figure if I can average about 5 shaves per blade, that would more than justify the cost. You're around 2-5 quid a month for blades at that rate. I can deal with that.

Not only did I shave my face with a feather tonight, but I also shaved my head. What was so scary about the feathers? I had a couple small cuts, but from all of the press, I expected it to skin my head and leave me in the emergency room. Sounds like its more technique and adjusting technique as you move is more important than any single blade.

I had the same when I first tried them. Expected a trip to ER, but got a great, bloodless shave instead . But indeed it is all about your basic technique. If you have that down and pay attention, you will be rewarded. I did find that in my very aggressive bar razor "Enigma" I can use Feathers only once. In the very mild Feather ASR on the other hand, at least 4 times (stopped then, but probably could have done at least one more). Have yet to try in them in my new favourite oc razor "The Beast" aka Fatip/Muhle R89 - old model  As the Fatip is the only razor I have that can top the Enigma, I am wondering if I can get more than one shave out of a Feather with it.

Well. Two full 3 pass shaves so far using only one side of the blade and the second shave is just as good as the first and just as smooth. I'm really diggin this blade.

While I'm no fan of the Feather, I've never found it particularly intimidating. It's just a bit rough for my liking. I don't think of that as unfortunate, rather, it's simply another example of YMMV.

What's fortunate is finding one of a number of blades that you enjoy using.

What razor are you using Shuman ?

thanks

After all the reading I did prior to starting wet shaving I thought I might as well start out with Feather blades. My reasoning was simply that a razor blade is always sharp, so why not go for the sharpest. Who would ever want to use a dull blade?

I seem not to get more than 2-3 decent shaves with Feathers in a super adjustable set to 9. The first shave being the best of course! With an average cost of 0.32$ a piece if you buy a pack of 100 is definitely somethin I can live with.

Same here. Tried a feather too late in the game to find out it is one of the smoothest blades out there. I feel like I couldn't nick myself with it if I tried, at least in my HD.
