I would like to get some input on which of these two members from this site would purchase over the other please state reasons why as well as pro's cons.
The Feather is head and shoulders ahead of the Dovo in terms of quality IMHO, hence the higher price.
That said, if you're just starting off, the Dovo will do a job, but I'd lean towards a Parker (maybe SR1) before splashing out on a Feather (or a Kai Captain).
If price is not an issue, the Feather Artist Club. No contest. The Feather has more weight behind it, and thus better approximates the shave of an actual straight razor. It's also built to last.
Shavette's (especially the Dovo which I consider to be the worst of the bunch) are super lightweight in comparison, and I believe a whole lot less forgiving (when means you are prone to getting cut far more often if you technique is not spot on).
If you want to go with a Shavette (perhaps due to easy to find blades, can use any DE blade), get a Parker, as the Dovo is much too lightweight, and has quite chintzy construction.
The Feather Artist Club is vastly more limited on blade choice than a Shavette. With a Shavette, you can use any DE blade on the market, with the Feather you are limited to two blade manufactures: Feather, and Kai.
Alright nice info thanks for the input but price is an issue unless someone wants to sell me a feather within the $50-$60 range
This should be moved to the Straight Razor sub forum. I have both a Feather Artist Club SS folder and a KAI Captain Standard folder. There is a world of difference, in both quality and function, between these two razors and the shavettes made by everyone else. The Feather and KAI were designed for shaving, the shavettes were intended to cut hair in a salon. The design, build quality, and balance of the Feather and KAI is much better than the shavettes. In addition, the shavettes use DE blades split in half. These blades have sharp corners, which are very "unforgiving", to say the least. The Feather and KAI use unique blades designed for these razors (they can be interchanged in both razors), which are absolutely the sharpest blades in existence (sharper even than the most well-honed "standard" straight that I have ever used). The longevity of the Feather and KAI blades is also exceptional, typically 10-15 shaves per blade. If you want to shave with a straight, but don't want to hone, strop, or maintain a razor, go with a Feather AC or a KAI Captain.
You'll be hard pressed to find a Feather AC in that price range. I was surprised how expensive they are.
