Father's Day Gift AS?

Father's Day is soon and I plan to gift shaving supplies to the Dad's in my life. Perhaps a brushless cream also to match.

What do you gents think would make a great AS gift ? Probably a splash, but maybe a nice balm? The scent probably needs to be non-polarizing, not cheap, but it shouldn't break the bank either. I find that most of the Dad's in my life have no idea what a good AS scent is or healing properties, so it is time to gift something that they like and will get compliments.

I have been trying some of the Artisans lately, and frankly would be embarrassed to roll the dice on those as a gift unless they are singular notes. But, I may be wrong.

The best AS gift I ever received was Czech & Speake Neroli Aftershave splash from my daughters. It was pricey, but glorious.

What are your thoughts and suggestions?

How about an aftershave or cologne that they wore as a young man but which is now difficult to find? It may bring back some great memories. You could take a good guess by their age and where they lived, or maybe ask other family members. As an example, how about English Leather Timberline by MEM?

I wouldn’t worry much about price as an indicator of quality. Old Spice is an all time classic and has been given on Father’s Days for decades. If you want something more modern, Proraso red is nice from what I hear. Since it’s imported from Italy, it might have a bit more intrigue.

Anyone can buy Old Spice for themselves. That's no gift.

What would you guys want as a AS gift?

Me, I'm tired of socks and bad ties.

I would be very pleased to receive any of these items from my daughter, it would show she had made a real effort and gone to some trouble. That said, her time is all I really want.

If you prefer something currently in production then how about Floris? For example, their No.89 aftershave has a matching shower gel, aftershave balm, shave soap, and edt. As an alternative, you might consider Penhaligon's or Acqua Di Parma, any of those would certainly please me. Another currently popular option is Creed although I personally do not care for the brand.

Anyone can basically buy anything for themselves. Any guy can basically go to the same internet shops you do and buy any aftershave for themselves. It's the thought that counts.

I’m personally not a fan of “healing properties.”

Bottle of terre d’hermes splash would be a fancy, classy, classic splash. Won’t cause breakouts. Won’t trigger reactions. Won’t go bad.

I would love to get B&M Spice, Seville, Russe, Bay Rum, or Full Measure of a Man in a splash or EDT. Creed Viking would be good, too.

If you like iris and mellon, the Razor Company's Acerbus splash smells amazing to me, and is a bargain at $17. I probably prefer it to the Creed Pure White EDT that inspired it.

A bunch of the Fine Acoutrements stuff is also great. I would love to try the Citrus Noir stuff.

I once gave a classic sandalwood splash to my uncle, who wasn’t really into grooming products, but he ended up loving it. It was subtle and had a timeless scent that didn’t overwhelm. For a balm, consider something like a gentle, unscented option or a light herbal one—less likely to clash with personal preferences.

I’ve also had luck with personalized gifts. They have a neat range of products that can make a gift feel a bit more special without being too pricey. My dad got a monogrammed shaving kit from there, and he was really pleased with it. It’s a nice touch if you want something a bit more personal.
