Falcon pipes

So, there's this Falcon pipe listed as a PopUp auction item and it looks quite interesting. I am not yet a pipe smoker, but did a little reading on it and it seems like a pretty good piece of engineering design (minus the dry rings, which you can just make yourself if you want).

Anybody have any experience with the Falcon system, and any ideas on how it would serve as an intro to pipes?

Sam, I've personally never used a Falcon. But many members here have. So I hope they chime in soon. IMO, the first pipe you should get if you don't know if you'll like the hobby is a corn cob, but if you are intrigued by the Falcon and want to give it a shot, you can't beat the one up for auction!

I bought one for a Hallowe'en constume a few years ago. I dressed up as a Newfoundlander (which I am!), but threw it out, unused, when we moved last year.

I gave up cigarettes when I was 12 or 13 (only when I could bum a smoke back then), and chewed baccy until I was 16 and got the hiccups while pedalling a bike uphill. THAT wasn't pretty, so I stopped the chaw.

My recommendation would be to pick up another cob and steal some 'baccy from James next you see him!

Best starter pipes in the world. Cool smoking and damn near bullet proof. I'm a big metal pipe fan and Falcon's are amazing smokers for the price.

Falcons are a very good pipe and when I got started about 44 years ago, they were a good inexpensive workingman's pipe. Even though they are still good pipes, I think that their price has become much too high for what they offer, but I still have a couple of Falcons in my rotation and smoke them quite often.

James is NOT allowed to be my Brown Leaf enabler. I take great smug satisfaction in my loaner starter fountain pens putting him on the road to becoming the Nib's monster we all know and love. He's tried unsuccessfully many times to get back at me with an enablement of one sort or another, but he CANNOT be my first pipe .... just on a matter of principle.

On several pipe groups that I am a member of, Falcons have quite a dedicated following....lots of smokers that love them....well worth a try.

Agreed. It was my first pipe when I was serious about getting into the hobby. I was nervous about pipe maintenance and having a bunch of pipes for a rotation. The Falcon is crazy easy to maintain and clean and you can buy multiple bowls so you have a pipe rotation out of just the single pipe really. I still use mine a lot, especially when in situations where I wouldn't want an expensive briar. Smokes incredibly well too.

Oh you're pushing me over the edge! I see they have black metal now also. Very nice. I have to say i love the idea of popping the bowl out for an easy clean. That and rotating bowls. Enabled! Enabled! Someone stop me

You mean that, even though I don't have a pipe yet, I've somehow manganed to enable someone in the Brown Leaf by just starting this thread?
