Facial hair stiffer after starting DE shaving?

Hi gents,

either it's my dry face from swimming earlier today or it's just something I've been noticing in general... but how many of you B&Bers believe your facial hair has gotten stiffer since starting DE shaving?

To say a dirty word - I feel like my whiskers weren't as stiff when shaving with a cart.

Thoughts?

It's an illusion - the hair ends are cut off square with a DE/SE while carts leave the ends whittled down. The sharper edges of the DE/SE cut hair just feel stiffer, but after a few days growth you can see that the hairs themselves are unchanged.

I ran in to this issue when I first started DE shaving as well. I found that it is how the hairs are cut with a DE, thus making them "feel" sharper or stiff. In reality they are not. :) I hope you are enjoying this great way of shaving, it is an enjoyment to shave now compared to what I use to shave with. :)

I thought my whiskers were getting stiffer too.

I eventually dug out one of my (new)old cartridge razors and it cut nothing like they use to, making it feel like my whiskers were alot stiffer. Of course, it also could have been exoposed to moisture and lost it's edges as the pack sat neglected in the bathroom drawer for many months.

I had wondered about that. I thought my hair was stiffer too, but figured it was the way they were being cut. Glad to know I had figured correctly.

Same here! The first few DE shaves made my face feel so BBS, and now my whiskers feel stiffer.

I don't find my hair stiffer, but I find them growing faster!

My rationale is I am putting so much attention to them, all that pre-shave oil massage, splash, balm, sun care etc. I think that stimulate their growth.

Or maybe just the development of an Obsessive Shaving Disorder. I don't mind shaving every 12 hr.!!

Might be just that you are pying more attention to it now.

Part of it may be that once you found B&B, you paid a LOT more attention to what your facial hairs were like.

+1 To all of this advice.

Relating to hair...no amount of cutting, massaging, petting, stroking, plucking, squirting, combing, shaving, whacking, bludgeoning, stabbing, crushing, or otherwise messing with, will generate any new follicular growth, speed up hair growth or make hairs more rigid.

It may FEEL thicker, and that is mainly because when you cut a hair, you remove the tapered end of the hair and the hair ends bluntly instead of tapering to a fine point.

Shaving your beard or getting a haircut blunts the ends of your hair. It's like taking a sharpened pencil, and cutting it in half, the pencil has not gained any girth, but may feel thicker to the touch since it no longer comes to a fine point.

Rogaine and Propecia are the only products currently on the market approved by the FDA to actually grow hair.

On a much more serious note, here are some new shave products for bald men.

+1 I noticed this also. I originally thought it had something to do with the shaving cream I was using. It's not. It's just what these guys are saying.

I suspect you've hit upon a reality for many of us. Pre-B&B I hardly gave shaving, shave prep, shave products, et al, any consideration. Now... well... you know....
