Face Lathering Brush?

Hey Guys,
After trying out the 4 brushes I have, all pretty much under $100.00 and feeling the difference between all of them. I've tried bowl lathering and face lathering... I've come up that I like face lathering better... I've read a lot of reviews on different brushes. Still not quite sure which one to make #5
I'm looking for the best brush for the buck I can buy for strictly face lathering, if there is such a thing?
I looked on Royal Shave and WCS and neither of them have 3/1 Roony Brush. Which one do you guys recommend for face lathering?

Thanks in advance-
Andrew

The best face lathering brush I have used is my Simpsons Duke 2. Very dense and has a good stiff backbone. I need to spend a little more time loading it because it takes it a wee bit to get down into the bristles but once that is done it is smooth sailing!

Is there a Big difference between the Duke 2 and 3?
If the 3 is the better one, I will buy that one.

I can't say whether it is better or worse because I have never used the 3. If memory serves me well I believe the 2 has a 21mm knot and the 3 is a 23mm knot. Maybe someone else can chime in that has used both.

I should add I really like the handle on the 2 for face lathering. It just seems to fit perfectly for whipping up lather. I believe the 3 has the same handle?

The Rooney brushes are available at http://vintagebladesllc.com/ and http://www.classicshaving.com/ - Simpson brushes are more widely available, as you have found. I enjoy my 3/1 in Super for face lathering with soaps and creams, but some folks feel that the loft is a little high.

For Simpson, you might also consider the Classic 2. I'm still breaking mine in so I can't make a strong recommendation, but it has a similar handle to the Duke and seems to be roughly halfway between the D2 and D3.

Grosvenor LE! I face lather soaps and creams, mostly soaps now. Wonderful performance from a beautiful brush!

I don't want to hijack the thread but at least the question is pertaining the OP original question.

Do you find the LE takes a while to load because of density or is it pretty easy to load before hitting your face. I think this might be my next purchase from Phil

What about a Cubby? I've yet to purchase one of those. Basically, I want to buy a perfect one, that I dont care how much it cost.

I have the Grosvenor and I loved it so much that I bought a back-up. It is my favorite brush all time and one of the reasons is its ease of loading. I bought a Chubby 2 and it was so dense and stout that I could not get it to lather. The Grosvenor easily works up the best lather with Art of Shaving sandalwood soap and is also effortless bowl lathering creams. I could not reccomend this brush more highly.

As to the OP's question, if you want a cheap face lathering machine, look no further than a boar brush. I really think those brushes shine face lathering soaps. The Grosvenor would be an excellent option as well.

I purchased the Simpsons Duke 2... Seems like fromt he reviews, I can't go wrong with that one. Thanks to those who helped me!

Just remember to be patient during the break-in period. My Duke 2 started out stiff and too scritchy for my taste...then after a month or so of daily use and it transforms into something magical...a perfect brush.:001_wub:

I'm on day 3 with mine - and I would consider it a great face latherer - and I didn't realize i was a face latherer...
