Face lathering boar brush recommendations

I have a 22mm finest badger and a 22mm silvertip badger that I love, both from TGN, but I would like to try a boar brush. Any recommendations for a good brush that isn't too expensive? I can't handle anything too scritchy, but the brushes I have seem to work pretty well.

I face lather with soaps and creams both and would prefer a brush head that was maybe a little smaller.

Semogue makes a couple of boar brushes that seem like what you'd want. The 1470, 620, 830, or Owner's Club brushes would all suit you.

Note: a 55mm+ loft on a boar brush doesn't mean the same thing it does on a badger. It's still rather backboney, and won't splay or bloom as much as a badger.

The man makes a good point. My Semogue 2000 has a 25mm knot and 60mm loft and sometimes it feels like I'm brushing with a small brush since it doesn't splay nearly as much as my badgers.

As far as I know, the only place that carries Semogue is vintagescent.com

The Omega 31064 is also another highly regarded boar brush that might be worth checking out.

Great service from vintagescent!
www.shaving.ie also have Semogue brushes.

What's nice about www.vintagescent.com is (for us here in the USA) there is a currency selector on the home page (bottom left) allowing us to convert all the prices into U.S. Dollars. Plus their service is excellent too in addition to shipping rates being very reasonable.

It's hard to view store sites out of the US with prices we don't comprehend.

Works both ways for us in the UK my friend! I have to convert both dollars and euros to a proper currency!

What about us in mainland Europe?
We have to convert all those weird currencies, like US dollars and British pounds, to €uros!

Here's a tip: insert the value (like €10, USD10 or £10) in http://www28.wolframalpha.com/ and you get a very nice and complete conversion to your local (and other) currencies. It just works! :thumbup1:

Try the semogue 1305. It was the preferred boar brush amongst one large group of boar brush users, edging out the 800 series. I just used mine this morning for the first time since using a badger brush and... I really liked it. It has more backbone than a badger brush but the tips are softer- at least than pure badger which is all I know.

I'd maybe stay away from the Semogue 620, since you're not really looking for something on the scrubby side. The 830 will be softer.

Interestingly, a Semogue 620 & 830 just sold on the BST today. Thats not a common sighting right there. I'd actually like to find one a bit scrubbier then the 620 even, if there is such an animal.

Semogue 830 is more on the soft side. It is a really wonderful brush, my weapon of choice or everyday use. I highly recommend it.

Do you face lather with your 830? I haven't received mine yet but was hoping to make that my travel brush (for face lathering). if it's not really suitable, I may pack up my 620 instead.

It's going to be the least scrubby boar you own, Ken. Guaranteed. It'll lather great, and be fairly gentle on the face, but "Premium Bristle" really tends to play down the scritchiness.

Good thing they're so reasonably priced. I may need another 620 for my travel kit then. Is the 620 the stiffest brush they make? I can envision replacing my best Badger with the 830 then and selling my Badger in the BST soon.
