What's new

extended bathroom times

Gentlemen,
I got to thinking about the amount of time it takes to shave in the bathroom every day, and I realized that I am guilty of hogging the bathroom, which has been a pet peeve of mine in the past.
So now the questions. Is this a problem? married men having to share a single bathroom?
Are we providing bitching rights to other household members by taking to long?
Do you have to adjust your schedule for available free time?
Did you have to add another bathroom to you house to end this problem?
Do you remove your hearing aids so it's not a problem?

I am sure this subject has reared its ugly head in many households, and I am curious, how has this problem been resolved? I would be interested to hear about your own personal experiences and solutions for this common complaint and perhaps enlighten us all to an equitable solution. Thanks, Bob

When the door is closed, I don't bug her, and she doesn't bug me, no matter what the duration is.
If the door is open, the other can feel free to share the room as opposed to having to use the guest bathroom.

Luckily this has not been an issue for me, we have two sinks and on work days we have slightly different schedules that allow for us to avoid crowding each other.

Luckily we have a shower room upstairs and a bathroom downstairs which SWMBO chose as her own when we moved in. The shower room was therefore mine and has now become the shave den!

Um......

Move house
Build extension over garage complete with plumbing which becomes a man cave with shave den
Move bucket of water into basement and tell SWMBO this is her new bathroom which leads to ...
Divorce and a bathroom of your own!

I avoid this drama by shaving after work when the bathroom tends to be clear. I get all the time I want to shave at my own pace. Topically I'm done in 20 min with a shower, but its nice to be awake AND not rushed. I get to enjoy my grooming the most even if I look a bit ragged by the end of the work day.

When we moved recently, we got two bathrooms. I knew that SWMBO would love the bigger bathroom, and I was content with the smaller one with a stand up shower only. Enough shelves for a decent size shave den, and we don't get in each others way. Thankfully, once I explained to her that it takes multiple passes to take a really nice shave, she was most understanding of why it takes so long for me to shave. The only rule is that I be ready on time for whatever we have planned. Pretty sweet deal for me!

Welcome to B&B!!

Our schedules differ so no problem. I do get up 15 minutes earlier than I did pre wet shaving days but enjoy every minute! )

Welcome to B&B!

We have different schedules, I get up at least 30 minutes earlier. Usually, 2hrs before (I'm a morning person where my other half rather sleep). So, it's not a problem. I only take around 20 minutes anyways which include a shower.

Welcome to the good ship B&B. Take a stroll on the promenade deck and enjoy the voyage. :thumbup1:

Always remember, relax but be vigilant when you shave!

P.S. I have no issues with SWMBO since I am single.

I normally let SWMBO know that today is my shave day and offer her the option of using the bathroom first... She knows how long I spend in there so more often than not she'll make use of the bathroom before me.

SWMBO has a cushy government job that lets her write her own schedule and work primarily out of home. I'm usually done in the bathroom and out the door before she wakes up!

running water to someone who has just woken up is a cruel and unusual punishment. I don't mind pausing with lather on my face mid shave if SWMBO needs in. Occasionally, if I'm in a rush, I'll finish a shave in the guest bathroom.

We have only the one bathroom, one sink.
But I break up the process so it doesn't really get in her way.

Soaking the brush doesn't interfere with anything.

Working up a lather only takes a minute or so.
When I get a layer on my face, I wander off and let it soften the stubble (turn on computer, make coffee, etc).

Then re-lather and the actual shaving - which takes 5-10 minutes, depending.

Then I can clean up the gear later.

So I don't have to hog anything!

I'm a major bathroom hog. Shaving, actually, is one of the shorter duration activities. The big time sink is when I have to wash, blowdry and flat iron 2 feet of hair.
